we finally got away. not far, but it was delightful. Aguerrie springs for a 24 hour get-away. although there was some snow left on the ground, we enjoyed comfortable temperatures. the little coleman cat took off the chill nicely. as the sun set, day use visitors left. we had the whole area to ourself! the stars were brilliant, the westy was warm, it was wonderful!!!!

Pictures like that make me question a couple of things...
Why do I live in the North East?
Why do I put my van away?
We have a pretty moderate climate here and this fall/winter there have been a few days that could have been one night get aways.
Congrats on getting away!

we do have pretty mild winters, for the most part. this same campsite is hot, buggy and swarming with people in the summer. city of rocks, nm is another favorite winter camping spot, but way too hot in the summer.
to get to cool in the summer, one has to get up to higher elevations; cloudcroft, ruidoso, emory pass in the gila wilderness are close. Colorado and northern NM have great summer spots.
this was our first trip out with shur flow faucet, new radiator and new ball joints.
too cool outside to know if the radiator made much of a difference, although the steep grade would have usually caused the temperature to go up and it didn't. nice tight steering on the switch-backs.
as to camping in the westy with "running water" all I can say is WOW! my westy has only ever had one of the non electric hand pumps, and one that didn't work well at that.
all the little things add up, I do really love my westy. |

Great pics, makes me homesick. I can't wait to get back, right now I'm stuck in the hellish nightmare of suburbia, S. Denver. Gross.
I'll be able to get the hell on out of here the first week of March, gettin closer everyday!
Northern New Mexico has perfect summer camping. Anybody passing through should look me up, I'm in Taos and can give you the skinny on all the good spots. _________________ 1987 GL Sunroof

Now you've done it! I'm jealous as all get out! Actually I'm more envious than jealous and I'm happy for you and the pics are beautiful and isn't it wonderful when you get something to work for you! It's a high. Hope your family is fine and when do you think your father will be able to get out and do some camping.? _________________ '09 2.5L Jetta 5 cylinder, 5 spd, super turbo, see thread in H2O Cooled Jetta, etc...

it was great, gotta say. Hopefully my dad will be ready by spring. valve replacement (his heart, not his westy) takes some recovery, and he tires easily. he thought about going, but thought it would be pushing it.... |
