in the rear, how do those swing plates work? they look a little stiff? You think that might cause premature wear somewhere... |

so the front and rear suspensions are installed i have also sectioned the gas tank for the R&P..... if you look in the some of the pictures the gas tank looks "puffed up"..... well let me explain after i sectioned the gas tank i was pressure testing it to check for leaks, i was using 5-PSI and it was working fine, then for some reason i thought 7-PSI would be a good idea..... well 7-PSI turned out to be just a little more then she could handle, but on the bright side i gained back some of the capacity lost in the sectioning. (:
(shane red) i was thinking the same kind of thing but there is no binding during articulation of the suspension. i will be keeping an eye on it. i'll more then likely build some new tubular ones in the near future.
and again thanks everyone for the comments

Turning out really nice. I like the puffed up tank. Looks like a custom tank. |

I like it. Talked about doing the same thing in high school, but got discouraged by pops. Granted, he didn't want my inexperienced ass to start hacking away at my daily driver then him have to come fix everything. So I stuck to drop spindles and an adjustable beam, then sold the car a year or two later.
Good to see a proof of concept and that everything lines up as it should aesthetically. Any road tests yet? _________________ '63 slow n low build thread...

sorry for the lack of updates "THE MAN" has been keeping me busy at work. but i have gotten some stuff done. i fixed the cancer in both lower quarter panels and replaced the front drivers side quarter panel due to some sub-par body work from the PO that i didn't fix back in High school but had bugged me ever since. i also repainted the red on the sides and the whole interior, also plumbed the air ride and fixed all the wiring behind the dash. today i pulled her out side so i could give the garage a much needed cleaning, while she was out there i took some pics of her and her sister i hope yall like the driveway.
don't mind the dandelions.
I have low expectations for my vehicles
i know the black radio knobs drive me crazy also.

Pretty sweet man. I, like many, have debated on doing a IFS on my Beetle. One of the main reasons I never pursued it is The fear of driving on cambered on skinny steering tires up front. Looks like you figured that out though. Pretty slick. How many miles have you put on it so far? And what did you dial your caster in at? _________________ 69 Squareback

Thanks again guys...
(fuhq64) the caster is adjusted with shims in the same way camber uses to be adjusted at the link pins. And I haven’t gotten to drive her yet (aside from up on to the trailer). but when I do I will let you know how she does. Worst case scenario I have to go back to the drawing board and change somethings, that’s the fun of building shit yourself… good old fashion R&D |

Do you have anymore info on how you set up your air compressors? Are you using a tank? |

(windsoreight) I have two Viair 450s up front under the gas tank and an aluminum 5gal tank behind the rear seat. I only have one comp wired up right now because I don't want to kill the alternator/battery. |

is there a way to build an a-arm similar to this, and get full travel without the crazy camber???? _________________ proud owner of a defunct 1979 sunroof kombi

(i_am_cool_fred) yes... if the A-arms were closer to equal length the camber would not be effected as much... but it would have required a different rack & pinion to prevent "bump steer" also it would have interfered with the gas tank inter finders more. |
