Just like the title says, for those of us that can't make it this year, post pictures and updates here to keep us in the loop. Also it will be nice to keep everything together to look back on in the future.
Have fun!, keep it straight, and Go FAST!
Wish I was there again this year! _________________ 1968 Ghia Land Speed Car

Beavergeezers took back the SS36 record with a salt-crusted 75.7899. I wonder how fast it will go if I wash some of it off?
Today looks like the best opportunity for higher speeds, since there seems to be some weather activity brewing.

Today not so fast. Best run was almost 1 mph slower. But almost everyone was having similar results. I wonder if the gentle breeze coming down the course had anything to do with it?
Also, Rain predicted in Wendover shortly (its 4pm MST), and we're already seeing lightning in the hills. |

I just talked to Burly. Rain hit the course this afternoon and the racing is stopped. He said it has been a good couple of days. _________________ 1968 Ghia Land Speed Car

We were the last car to run on the course, the rain was just starting. After running 65mph for three runs today (yesterday was 68mph) I changed the carburetor and got it dialed in pretty good. The final number six run was 75.65mph. If it clears up enough and they run on Monday/Tuesday, I'm going to pull the the stocker out and run last years bus engine in it. _________________ 30 years experience in the sales of new and used auto parts!

Broke last years record in my SC. Ran 86.663, engine held together great. Today I had carb problems (salt in the jets) Got them cleaned and running good again but didn't get back in line to run again.
I was happy with what I did compared to last years 68.685.
Going to do some engine mods over the next year to try and get some more power to try and break 100 mph in a bus with a 36 hp based engine.
It has been a blast till we got rained out. Nice seeing everyone from the SAMBA there and Brad kicked some serious ass.
Long drive home tomorrow , back to work and planning next years adventure
We will be posting videos on u-tube search team roco bonneville _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

It's great meeting guys from on here like Ronnie, Matt, Tom, Dan and ("P" Rick ) , They're even nicer in real life.
I upped my buggy record from 115 to a 121. The car handled great and appearantly sounded really good ALL the way down the track. I had to do a tranny swap agian this year but bought the box from Britt so now have a very nice tranny to beat on for years to come. Thank You so much Britt. We also buggered up the shift coupler when doing the swap and were saved by a fellow racer who had a spare, and I'm sorry but I forgot your name, but THANKS.
We were done by noon today. Yesterday in the heat I only ran a 111 so I was pretty bumbed about that, but my frst run this morning was a 119 and a jet change and duct tape got me to 121. Last 2 runs were just a tenth under 120.
I had a freakin' BLAST!!!!!! Congrats to all the guys who broke records or set personal bests. And thanks to the Blackline family for holding a great BBQ for us all to get together at.

Not so good with names, but this is what I know:
Steve and friend, 122 mph so far:
Brilliant Blackline Boys, the brothers Justin and Colton, hit 139.8 so far:
Wind, rain, sun:
Bill Hatfield, only ran twice, but bested his DSS record of 108.324 with a 114.908. I was on his crew...meaning I held the umbrella while we waited.
Britt, I think? Nice guy, can't remember much else, lol.
Brad, slalombuggy, details of his runs above:
This bus was the first ever to break 100 mph:
Bill's car again:

Kyle, thank you so much for the great pictures!
I hardly dare ask as its a lot of work, but could you comment the pics with
- who's car,
- what class and
- what engine (if class is not well defined)
if at all possible.
If you don;t know, no problem of course, but it would make it so much more informative for me if you do know .
I like to know what 'the competition' looks like and is doing _________________ '75 SB 1303 2,4ltr T4 turbo: 10.58 @ 129.9mph

Here's one more. I met a french couple who sold all of their belongings, bought a bus in New York and have been driving across the world in it. They've been going for a month already and pure luck brought them to the flats during the one time of year that VW's are out there. When they get to Cali they'll be shipping the bus to Singapore and continuing on their journey. I'm jealous and wish them the best of luck!

I edited my post with the little info I could remember. I'm sure the usfra website will have more info available at some point. |
