This is my first on the samba thank you for giving me a read, I GREATLY APPRECIATE any insight into this ugly process.. I got an amazing deal on the new pre-gutted '84 water automatic Transporter ( no engine or tran ), the old one an '80 air manual Westfalia sadly is just too far gone. My '80 westy is rusted from bumper to bumper in all the wrong places as well the rear quarter was hit badly, but the engine and transmission are solid and newer rebuilt definitely worth the hassle also really nice interiors worth keeping.

All that being said, I flat simply have read several posts relating to the auto to manual swap and everyone saying it was a beast of a process I at first wasn't fearing. I'm well along into it and see that the air venting/steering column mount is kinda slowing the progress. I want to DESPERATELY find the fastest possible way even if it means making metal augmentation to get the R&R with minimal down time. I'm doing all this here at my dealership with plenty of techs to help get it done, but even with the Bentley on hand, its all just diagrams. I'm hard debating short cutting and fabbing a clutch pedal assembly in place of the washer fluid resevoir for ease of placement. I most humbly request the input from the ocean of all your brilliance samba-nation, please help a dude out

Your most gracious sponge for knowledge,
-Jeremy-

First run up to Small Car and pick yourself up a good used WBXer so that you will have something worthwhile when you are done. On the way back stop at Avery's and get all the miscellaneous little stuff you need. With luck you could make this into a one week project. 20 extra HP and good heat in exchange for not having to figure out how to seal up the engine compartment, now that is win win.
