wow, that case is really well done, I'm definitely thinkin of doing something like this. This definitely looks better than having a speaker box on either side of the luggage area in a bug.
one question, what would be the best speaker placement in a bug? _________________ (0\!/0) 1966 Beetle - daily driver. |

Wire one of them out of phase from the other for the meanwhile until you divide that enclosure- stat |
Ummm - they will be 180 degrees out of phase in the front and will sound like crap since any common sound will cancell .... The small enclosure will limit bass response unless your box is properly sized for the speakers (my 8" JBL sub only wants a small box (9x10x10 ish). But as mentioned - maybe a small fan and a vent hole to cool the amp.
Very neat set up - great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Understood- but it was suggested for tonight- not forever. Loud volumes when two stereo speakers pump against the same enclosure sounds far worse in my opinion than any 6x9 placed 8 inches from another 6x9. Again- nothing permanent suggested- just a bandaid. I can certainly hear OOP speakers when there is distance between them- but there is very little stereo separation happening in that box- just the struggle of enclosure space...
Again, the beauty of this is it's just my educated opinion- based on how sound hits me.
It is a very nice suitcase! Looks like it fits the era of an early car too- not too old as is often done. _________________

If you want to get decent sounds in a "stealth manner" I run 2 5 1/4s in the rear kick panels and 2 on a panel on the front firewall above the pedals. If I want more serious, I have installed a JBL 8" sub under the rear seat. I have the full set up with a decent amp in my 65, but just did a "retro-sound" head unit with the 4 5 1/4s in my wifes 61 and its not bad. No interior space is used and you don't really notice any of it inless you look for it. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

I really love the look and the craftsmanship on both of these examples. That's really thinking outside of the box... If you'll pardon the pun.
If you want to get sound up front, get a bamboo or metal tray for under the dash, you can stealth in a couple speakers on top of it. _________________ 2013-2014 Vice President of SOVW www.sovw.org

Nice work in both of these. When mounting the amp, did you mount it on board or straight into the bottom of the case. Also for my naivety, are you able to explain the boxing of the speaker section? Is this to provide a nice solid base for sound resonation? |

would be awesome if anyone who has successfully designed one of these could post some (even rudimentary) design drawings for newbs to follow, including perhaps wiring ideas, speaker size/type suggestions, box dimensions, etc.
really great idea. hope mine turns out half as good!

I made the custom enclosure for the 6x9's to fit in the suitcase along with the amp. I have the amp running through a switched fuse along with a toggle switch to turn it off while the car is running. The amp plugs directly into my iphone where i can stream Pandora or use the ipod feature.
It sounds good for what it is. I just dont want an ugly speaker box or a new car stereo in the dash.
