Hi guys....
This is my "new" VW Bug 1200cc from 1967
I bought her yesterday...It hasen't been driven for 7 years...
It's all original (repainted once 15 years ago with the factory code)...This is her first night out...to get some gas and get the tires to the optimum pressure...
Its wonderful
It has a bit of a tragic story...but...it is in good hands now...I'll take care of her as her first owner (a young kid that died 20 years ago that took care of her...we bear the same name)

Congratulations on your type 111 1200 "A"! Your car is a pretty rare piece, even your 1200 engine is very rare with the 1500 type oil pump and still at 6 volts! I've had my 65 "A" for over forty four years and they just run and run.
Taken me from high school all the way to retirement!
Enjoy! |

How do you put old-style bumpers on the new-style mounts?

The real question is, how did they put new-style bumpers on old-style mounts? |

I've seen many Euro models lacking the fake horn grille on the passenger side like yours. |

That's the way they come unless you special order the car like the guy who brought my car into the states. The 1200 Canadian custom which is still a 111 model has them and towel rack bumpers and chrome body side molding as standard. |

In the second picture, what is going on with the paint or finish on the last lower few inches beginning just below the horn grill, from fender edge to fender edge? |

Nice looking Bug-the "no hood trim" look is kinda cool!
Looks like whoever pushed it out of the garage pushed on the headlight lenses-you need to take them loose and put the spring clips back where they belong-it'll also bring the lights back into adjustment... |

As for the bumpers:
Yeah, I know they are not original. They came with the car. I am in the search of replacement for the original bumpers.
The paint:
It's a tradition for car protection here in Macedonia, to put so called "plastobit" on the lower part of the car, thus protecting it from the elements. it's a combination of tar and other elements. The whole floorpan it's covered with tar, ...old school repair job and it's working...most of the time
The headlights
Yeah the right one is loose. The spring is there...I've checked it, but is not working. It has some issues with the electrics (the hole car) so I'll have to sort them out.
And it has been converted to 12V ten years ago.
Also it has an old school rev counter.
My location:
Bitola, Macedonia

Wow you guys have some nice cars, and the square looks great. Is that Bitola? I understand by your message that you are very emphatic that your not Greek...but your very close! Let's hope you are not experiencing civil unrest like they are having at this time. Wonder if your getting refuges spilling over? |

You'd be surprised what the Greeks are doing to us...pure terror...
USA, Russia, China, UK support us...but...they are doing nothing to make it better...

My dear friend and neighbour, opinion is one thing, misinformation is another
Fact Nr.1 : Greece is the number 1 foreign investor in your country (former yugoslav republic of macedonia aka FYROM). At least 200 greek companies have invested over 1 billion euro (1,3bn in usd) in the last few years, that lead to over 20.000 jobs in FYROM.
Fact Nr2: Due to the economic crisis in Greece, many thousand greeks in the nothern part of the country very often cross the borders and buy food, gas and other goodies from you, because they are cheaper in your country, thus benefiting your economy.
So, tbh, i wouldn't call that "pure terror"...
PS. nice bug, seems like a good project, and i agree with the others, lose the late bumpers _________________ 1956 Lizard Green Oval ragtop

As for the "name" problem (for those that don't know the subject):
FYROM is a small 20 year old country, part of former Yugoslavia, with a 2 million people population, 2/3 Slavs and 1/3 Albanians.
The problem begins with the fact that u claim to be "macedonian". Noone is saying that u dont have a country, but countries and nations r different things. Albanians, Greeks, Bulgarians, etc r nations and also countries.
There is no "macedonian" nation. Macedonia is something like a county in nothern greece and in geographical terms in the past used to cover a bit of FYROM and Bulgaria.
So, for our friends in the US to understand it better, i ll make an example:
Imagine FYROM is Mexiko and Greece is the USA. The US have a state that is called New Mexiko. Imagine now that the government of Mexiko is saying that New Mexiko is really a part of Mexiko and does not belong to the US.
That is mainly the reason that Greece cannot agree with u naming ur country just "Macedonia" and prefers atm the name F.Y.R.O.M or another name that we can agree. _________________ 1956 Lizard Green Oval ragtop

Ah, but we do have that in the U.S. There are many Mexicans that still believe California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas belong to the Mexican people. I get your point though and the complexity is even greater if you look back much further than you explained. As a outsider I hope you both can resolve your differences as amicably as possible. |
