|
|
I pulled the trigger to rebuild my tranny for my tdi 2wd,
I got a 1/2 syncro case(no 5th gear just main case for the locker assembly) with peliquin locker and all the other upgrades 3500 big ones
I dont really want to use the vacum actuated plumbing
Has anyone here installed either
1) a cable system to actuate the locker
Or
2) An electric actuator _________________ 89 Westy with TDI AHU 1.9 manual lots of mods

I should mention that the pic shows a Mercedes door lock vacuum switch being used for test purposes. The actual switching is done by the combo relay. The nice thing about this arrangement is that the vacuum plumbing is very short. _________________ Casey--

Thx that 2nd install is exactly what i had in mind
Having the locker shifter cable come up near std gear shifter
Clearencing the starter seems very tight
I wonder why one could not just invert the actuator arm
And have it push/pull in the arc toward the cv joint

Thx for the references this is what i was hoping to find _________________ 89 Westy with TDI AHU 1.9 manual lots of mods

| Why don't you want to use the vacuum.? I tapped into the brake booster line right behind the heater cover/panel .com I used landscaping drip irrigation 1/4" hose and routed it back to the actyator. I didn't use the panel or the reservoir/canister. It activates instantly. There is no indicator light but I really don't need it. I did use a stock valve and just drilled a hole in the cover plate. |

My experience with the landscape type hose is that it eventually gets brittle and breaks....but that is in use around my home/yard. Is the stock line the same material? _________________ Dave O

| The stock stuff is a harder opaque plastic with hoses on the ends to attach it. The hoses usually get loose and dry over time and leak. The hard plastic line seems to last. The landscape stuff fits over the nipples so you don't need two types of hose. It isn't that robust but has lasted a year so far. It was like$5 for 50 ft but I might try something else if it fails. |

Take a looks at these guys
http://www.cableshift.com/094/VW%20094.html
http://s75.photobucket.com/user/lil_italy480/media/Cable-Shift/0942.jpg.html
Looks like I can work with them to get something fabed with their off the shelf parts designed to shift the gears, just need different bracketing for the actuator to attach to the cable, and a simple throw shifter they stock
Does anyone have detailed picture of the syncro actuator that I can get
cableshift to look at
hmmm any one with a syncro & a locker in Phoenix want stop by there shop in
at E VanBuren and N 52nd ? _________________ 89 Westy with TDI AHU 1.9 manual lots of mods
