|
|
Hi, Im rebuilding an 84 dash. After getting the gauges working, I move along to the warning lights. The high beam led is burned out. The voltage between the two mounting pins, or sockets, is 12v.
Im guessing that the resistors are for reducing the voltage and it should be lower? Is there a link to the operation of the warning lights?
I already have the Old Volks Home tach mod and another complete wiring scheme but no voltages or specs of any kind.
Thanks |

The original indicator is a tiny incandescent bulb, but here above is a blue led replacement. You can probably buy one locally at radio shack. _________________ 1988 Vanagon

| So the 12 volts at the bulb is ok? |

You can still buy the stock bulb

Or you could go ahead with the Blue led. My wiring diagram shows a resistor inline with the high beam indicator light. There may be issues with regard to the intensity of the led that you could address by adding more resistance to the connection.
Good luck. _________________ 1988 Vanagon

| Thanks, RadioShack has a blue. All are rated at 3.5v. I don't really know how top test the resistor or even what one does. |

Thanks for the site on resistors, helpful.
I don't know the voltage of the other lights as I am going by whats written on the package at RS and online sites.
I am going to spend a bit of time on it today and experiment. |
