Heads are very nice and I have a few questions . Are chambers on 42x37.5 heads only for 94mm pistons or can 92mm thick wall pistons be used ? Can you matchport my manifolds ? Are CB650 springs and titanium retainers available as an option ? Can you flycut and cc heads for specific compression ? Thanks for any info . I am looking to buy new heads soon and these look very well done .

Quokka42 , yes we can run any bore size from 85.5 to 94mm

modok, the seat and guides come from PEP, not sure what DRD port size is on the level 5. Give him a call 714.545.4100

fuguboy, yes the chambers can be cut for different size barells, Call DRD about matchporting and specific chambers. at the moment the CB springs and retainers are not available on these heads. Call DRD about you specific needs for custom stuff 714.545.4100

If anyone would like to get on our mailing list for Revmaster please email me [email protected]

I will be sending out information about what we are doin with these heads.

Mike sent out this info today, thought I would post it for those not on the mailing list.

049™ Cylinder Head

We have been getting a lot of requests for specific information about the Revmaster 049™ 40 X 35 non-ported cylinder heads. Today I stopped by Lowbugget.com and, sitting on the dyno was a 2110 fresh off making a series of dyno pulls. A. J. Sims said “the motor was a torque monster”. I didn’t get all the internal data on the build but I did notice the motor had our non-ported 049™ 4035 heads and I shot a few pictures in the few moments we looked over the motor. Below I attached a flow bench sheet from Competition Engineering out of Phoenix. Mike Fischer flowed the heads a while back for a customer and his numbers and the numbers I saw at Lowbugget.com seem to line up pretty good. The 049™ 4035 ports were specifically designed for the Revmaster R-2300 aviation engine which operates around 3000 rpm and is used in experimental airframes and light sport aircraft. The 4035 makes a perfect cylinder head for street and off-road vehicle use because of its increased port size and the use of aircraft grade materials and permanent mold technology that provides the highest quality finished product with the best cooling capabilities available on the market today.

The 049™ air passages are amazingly clean from debris, allowing the head to run cool. Hi-Rev single or dual valve springs with chromoly retainers and hardened keepers are available. The added area outside the combustion chambers significantly increases the stability and rigidity of the head.

LowBugget.com carries the full line of 049™ heads in non-ported configurations. They also are an excellent choice for complete engines and accessories.

Call them, visit them on the web or stop by. 714-639-4284. www.lowbugget.com

A.J. was impressed with the performance of the 049™ cylinder head on this engine. He was very happy to say the least. 153HP @ 5500 and 156 lbs of torque @ 4000 on a 90.5 piston. For the pulls, the motor was fitted with 44 IDF dual carbs. A.J. stated that, had the motor been equipped with 40 IDF's, it would have certainly produced more torque. What a fun motor

The above flow chart that was generated a few years ago shows the head producing slightly over 154 cfm @ .600 lift without manifolds. Most tests are done with manifolds which straighten out the airflow and the lift is usually @ .650 or .700, making these numbers very real and modest. Competition Engineering is legendary in the VW high-performance arena.

The 049™ head is available in many configurations.

Looks like the heads made in china are getting better all the time! Just wondering how much the ports were "blended" for the CE flow tests. Mike said no manifolds so just a port to seat blend?

Looks like a good alternative to the panchito as cast!

Hey Mike can you post some pics of the chamber? I was about to pull the trigger on some Panchitos but the step in the chamber and the additional cost of having more machine work done is unappealing. If these have no step and the modern "heart" chamber RM is getting some of my $

Thanks

Some pics would be great. I'm liking the look of these even more, but being in Oz they might be a bit hard to get hold of. I had a look at the Simms page, but they don't seem to list them, and DRD only seem to have the CNC versions.

It would be cool if we had some specs on that AJ motor. I'm sure it has an AJ cam, but a rough idea on CR and cam timing would be helpful.

my 11 yearold mofoco's flowed 134 in stock form when I got them, turd in the intake port, crap for valve job,(not realy crap but not a performance vj.)stock type chambers, shrouded valves, 85.5 bore. I know roy has updated his castings so there probably a lot better now. so from what I see hear I think the restriction is the inlet size/shape direction for the most part, there not very far appart on the cfm& I dont see the big booger/turd in the port on these heads and probably a much better chamber that will flow more. they do look like a nice head.are they china heads?? or made in the usa like roys heads?? Ive had 2 sets of china heads, wasent real impressed with them but saw no real problems other than they were smaller than the vw head in the valve cover rail area so the covers had to be just right to seal. I think they were the 043 castings from china (scat prostreet) they did not have any booger/turd in the port around the guide. I have around 80000 miles on my mofoco's there now wedgeported&42x37.5 valves,& reshaped chambers, still the orignal guides, they work great. I hope these revmasters turn out to be just as good...and made in the usa.(I hope)

OK here are some pics I shot today, if you guys have any other questions I will check back on here from time to time.

Yes the heads are made in China, and I know there is a lot of stuff comming out of there that is not too great. We recently met with the manufacture and I asked why there is stuff that is not of quality being produced over there. In a nut shell they explained it to me like this. Many people ship the chinese manufacture a part and say copy this, the factory then has to try and reverse engineer it and make molds. then the cost of the molds is broken down, you want wood molds (very cheap) or permanet molds (very expensive) next they say what material and can you make the heads for 40 bucks. The 049 heads was produced entirely different. Revmaster entered into China over 30 years ago along side Mcdonald Douglas to manufacture aircraft parts as well as auto Hi performance connecting rods for Manely etc etc. The aircraft industry manufactures off drawings and material spec sheets which is how the 049 heads are made. Between Joe Horvath and Ralph Maloof there is over 100 years of experience in manufacturing aircraft engine components, both of them are experts in metalurgy and I have personally witnessed them specing alloy makeups for products. I was pretty taken back by the process. Once a sample of a product is produced it is sent out for testing to prove the specific weights of materials are present in the part. Ask anyone who has machined on the 049 head, it machines different than any of its competitors. It is only my personal perspective but I believe that the Chinese, Brazilians and production personel in Mexico are all capable of making excelent product if given the right direction, funding and equipment. I do not disagree with anyone about some of the products comming out of China, I just think ours is entirely different.

Also wanted to say the other day a fellow racer friend showed me some mofoco heads he had just picked up, those heads are nice. Very impressive

Hey thanks everyone for ordering heads and keeping me busy. I havent had time to get on here. When the term blended ports is used it basically means the area under the seats is clean up. I do this to all the heads that are ordered complete and on the bare heads I leave that area alone. Thanks

Mike, I am putting together a reference sheet for current production heads and I was wondering what the volume for an unmodified as cast port is.

Thanks

it's a shame they didnt "D" port the exhaust, add more material under the ex seat&heart the chambers& cast to where little to no porting work is needed. it can be done.

Yes. They are using the same casting from the same foundry, from what I've been told. AA Performance Products has them, too. Who knows who else will be using them in the future, as the people who made them were at SEMA this year showing them. It looks like EMPI has ground off the "049" symbol, whereas the AA version still has remnants of the ring in the casting.

On the one hand, it's a shame for Revmaster if they developed a product and the people who manufacture it for them are now selling it to other distributors. On the other hand, it does make the product available to more consumers through the various dealer networks out there, which will likely drive the price down for the end user.
