Great Looking Bus! I love the way it looks now but I have always been fond of the Montana Red and white. I had a 68 deluxe that was that color originally as well as a 71 Westy. Bold!
After seeing your bulkhead cut out, my heart is breaking that last year I parted out a 1971 bus with the bench seat. I ran an add for months with no bites trying to sell the cab section.
I hope you can find the parts to fix it.
Good Luck!

Latest update: The bus is on the road and being driven daily.
Didn't get many pics of the progress while repairing, but I put the new fuel pump, distributor cap, plugs and wires. Changed the oil and added a new battery. Fuel just poured into the case so I took the carb off, douched it out and rebuilt it. Put it back on, dumped the oil and gas out, put new oil in and it fired up in about 10 seconds. Just great pleasure hearing that engine running.
After I adjusted the idle, I put the new fluid reservoir in, bled the brakes and took it for a spin.
While I've been working on that stuff, my wife has been busy making door panels and getting the interior in order.
Materials she used were masonite, 1/4 inch carpet padding with plastic on each side, some fabric from wal mart and a sewing machine. Here are some of those pics.
Today, I traded some of my old bug stuff that I'm not using anymore. i.e. front beam, front and rear shocks and a linkage kit for a rear bench seat. Much to my surprise, when I took it out of the bus it was in, it was the complete z-bed kit too. I'd say a score for me.
I started taking all of that old plywood out of my bus so I can get the new back seat in. Here are those pics.
Added a new front mat from JBugs, very impressed.
And now my 2 favorite running toys.
Got it insured on Friday, going to register it this week and just keep working on it when I'm not working on my bug.
Have a good one all. _________________ Today is the youngest you will be for the rest of your life, live it that way.

The '70 I just picked up is running & ready to drive, BUT I have to wait a few more weeks until the SALT is washed away by the spring rains, and the mud needs to dry up a bit.....

Hey all, it's been a while. So the last time I updated you, my Jeep was one of my favorite toys and my bus looked like this:
Well, since then the Bus overwhelmingly became my favorite toy and we sold the Jeep to do some stuff to the bus. We just sold the Jeep so nothing has been done with that $ yet. My wife and I have really enjoyed getting the interior back into the shape it needed to be in. It was atrocious.
Started with the disassembly of the interior.
Prepped interior for paint. Bus is going to be painted white and turquoise so to all of you that didn't want me to paint it, the wife won. To speed up the process and save a little cash, we decided to do the interior on our own in the back yard.
Got it primed.
Shot the interior with white single stage, refurbished the steering wheel, painted the column, made a new sticker for the column mount.
Replaced all door seals with German seals from Wolfsburg West.
Replaced that old ass chevy blazer seat with a factory bus seat out of a 70 bus, put a new TMI cover on it and added the Z Bed brackets. Scored the seat with the brackets in trade for powdercoating some rims. Stoked about it.
Put some old seats out of an 84 Ford Escort in the bus and my wife covered with T Shirts. Plan on putting PT Cruiser seats in it sometime in the future.
Installed a new Pioneer CD player with 2 Kicker 5 1/4 in the kick panels. Put billet window cranks on, antique glass door knob for the shifter and a lot of other stuff too.
Went to Bugorama in Sacramento and had a great time. It was good to meet Kim there, she actually let me put my swap finds in her bus so we could shop some more. Ended getting a lot of stuff that we needed, including some stickers that my wife picked up to start turning it into a real bus.
Couldn't find a fairly inexpensive emblem, so I made a chincy sticker out of reflective white vinyl. Still looking for an emblem, if any of you have one, send me a PM.
And this is how it sits today in the parking lot at work.
and at home.
Other stuff that we've done, changed all light seals, quickroof for sound deadening, added the rear marker lights and front reflectors. I'm sure there is a bunch more, but I can't think of it right now.
Thanks for looking, sorry for all the pics, but it's been a while. _________________ Today is the youngest you will be for the rest of your life, live it that way.

Thanks Kim, It has been a lot of work, but low and behold a very fun project. BTW, you need to get some more pics of your pony hauler on here. I've been telling everyone about it and for some reason I didn't get any pictures of it. _________________ Today is the youngest you will be for the rest of your life, live it that way.

Finally decided to do some mechanical work on the bus. Pulled the engine to get it rebuilt. While I had it out, there was no better time then now to replace and regrease the cv joint boots.
Pulled the transmission too, it was an absolute mess. I guess this is what happens when a bus sits in an empty lot for 15 years.
Bought all new engine seals from WW, new coupler bushings, new kyb gas adjust shocks for front and rear, putting new brake shoes on, basically rebuilt the wheel cylinders with new rubber, sand blasted and cleaned everything and will powder coat this weekend. A lot of work, but when this is done, the rear end will be complete.
Here is a couple pics of the wheel cylinders.
Basically a before/after, they both look like the right one now.
How brakes looked, will post an after when i'm finished with them.

So I'm finally getting back to you guys on some more of the progress on the bus.
So after I had the motor rebuilt, I got it back and the engine tin looked like hell. As soon as I got it back, I disassembled it completely and powder coated all of the tin the color that my wife picked to paint the exterior of the bus. Yeah guys, no getting out of this one.
Powdercoated manifolds super chrome from prismatic powders.
Mid Assembly
In the mean time, while the engine was out, I went ahead and took out the gas tank and gave it the POR-15 treatment, worked really well for me. Have to go through the process exactly as the instructions state. Only thing I did different was waited about 2 weeks before putting any gas in it.
Before
After
So with the tank out, why not paint the engine bay too. We figured that white would make the engine stand out even more.
Before
After
Got the transmission in with new shifting coupler and throwout bearing, blasted and powder coated the axles, rebuilt axles with cv joints re-greased and new boots.
Here is the engine stuffed in the bus
Before
After
The only other pic I have to share right now is the interior. We bought a middle seat from a guy in Reno that was in great shape and got it in.
Stuff done that is not in the pictures.
Completed all electrical, now everything works how it's supposed to. Blinkers, head lights, brights, dash lights, horn, absolutely all electrical stuff works flawlessly.
New shocks, rides like a champ.
Got our 10" VW Emblem put on the front. All in all, we love the bus and it is driven every single day. Next step is to get it painted. I'm going to wash it today and I'll post a few more of the engine. I also put the heater blower back in and have it connected to a switch on the dash.
Enjoy and have a great day. _________________ Today is the youngest you will be for the rest of your life, live it that way.
