OK so this is definatley a newbie question but i have been sitting in front of my engine for about 2 hours perplexed. I am trying to drop my 1600 cc engine. And I have remove all the bolts holding the engine into place except the transimision/enigine mount behind the clutch linkage. I cannot remove it because it is pressed into the metal there is some casting on the side of it which prevents it from being turned. So what am I missing. Sorry If i am being at all vague i just do not no the correct treminology for all these parts. Thank You

With the car jacked up pretty high and safely blocked look up behind the clutch arm, the bolt (not a nut) goes in from BEHIND, Get your ratchet and a 6" extension and your 17mm socket reach over the top of the tranny with your left arm and steady the socket and extension with your right hand and pull down on the ratchet handle with your left hand and arm to break it loose... that's it... good luck
oh, you may want to put the other top starter nut back on hand tight to keep the engine from pressure binding the one you need to get out.......

OK the thing is though that i cant turn the bolt behind the clutch linkage because there is a piece of cast metal around it that wont allow the bolt to turn.

Later cases have a pressed in threaded deal so that the bolt went through the backside (due to the doghouse cooler that area was now not easily accesable.
What are you saying that someone stuck a ef'ed up bolt in from the backside??? Are you working on the backside of the tranny right next to the clutch arm?... Man I had a car from hell where someone actually got a half moon bolt from an early model and somehow rammed it in there tight... it was a major pain to get out.
What year is this as the early trannies also have a "boss" in the casting that can interfere with the bolt....
Sorry I can't seem to be of much more help, I'd have to see it and cuss it myself!

Yeah i think that might be it. There is a a piece of the metal casting that is protruding from the transmision that surounds 1/2 or 1/4 of the bolt. It is really hugging it, so much so that it wont allow the bolt to turn or allow a box end wrench on. You can get a cresent wrench on there but not a box end. It is a 69 ghia that i am working on but the transmision has been rebuilt along with the engine so my guess would be that it is the same case as the original transmision and the engine is a 1600cc but who knows from what year or what type. Thanks for the help. Did that make any more sense?

Ok so i just spent some more time looking at everything and it seems like the bolt that fastens to the nut behind the clutch linkage is actually round. It does not have any edges on it. Has anyone seen this before?

Sounds like you are looking at the wrong side of that bolt. Are you still working inside the engine compartment? The case(engine) is threaded and the bolt goes through the trany and threads into it. You will have to get under the car and undo that one. Also dont forget to take off the rear tin before trying to remove the engine, you will wonder why you cant pull it back.
