I've got the wolfsburg west repro lemmerz trim rings and i am wondering what is the correct way to install them. I don't want to rush into installing them, as they clearly will (at least) scratch the paint on the rims, but also bend out of shape if pressed on without a proper technique?

From this pic you can see that they have sharp edges, so apparently you are supposed to just press the rings against the rim and hope they will hold? Clearly they will at least scratch the paint underneath, but i guess it's ok if they stay on the rim. I'm just wondering, because the stock rim has no bumps or stops that would hold the ring in place, just how will it last on with just these spikes against the wheel? How do you press them on without messing it up?

I would really appreciate any advice from someone who has installed them, before jumping into things!

Thats pretty much it..you just push them on and yes..they will scratch a little but the rings hide any nicks or marks they leave...the downside is, if you ever want to remove the rings..you've got scratched rims to deal with...they look great when on though!

Speaking for the original Lemmerz rings, which look to have the same attachment tabs:
Yes, you just push them on.
Yes, they can scratch the paint.

My originals are already bent back quite a bit and they still stay on so if they are super hard to get on as-is, you could bend the tabs a little first.

Finally got around installing the rings, thanks for the good comments and advice!

I recommend highly to bend the tabs slightly beforehand, it will ease installation. On one of the rings i did not do this, which in part caused the ring to slighly misplace so that it did not clear the valve, bending it from the spot instantly. Bummer, but it wasn't that bad after all. You really have to look for it to see it.

On the positive side, if for some reason you have to take trim off and start installing it again, you can just bend the tabs back up and away you go. Tabs will not snap off or otherwise be mangled, but will hold on firmly.

Overall, what a great product, they look awesome when mounted. Volkswagen sure knew what they did when they originally offered these Smile

Hey Kuplatin. I just got a similar set. They too were difficult to install (I didn't pre bend the tabs) but to my surprise, one of them flew off this morning on the way to work. Did you do anything special during installation to make sure they stay on?!

Just installed mine: slightly bend the tabs (inwards), put short pieces of padded two-sided scotch tape on the two tabs next to the valve cut-out, put more two-sided tape at 90 deg intervals, line up the valve cut-out and gently press in, gently press in opposite side and then the remaining sides. Nice look.
