|
|
I've been researching the different ways to lowering a bus, and it seems the nicest, easiest way is with the kit off of Wagenwest. Only issue is it's pretty pricey for me at the moment. Wondering if there's any other places you could recommend on how to do this, kits sold? or maybe someones stories on their attempts at it! Thanks for your help

I lowered one with different wheels only, works great. 15 inch Fuchs in front with low profile tires dropped it 2 inches and the rear is 17's with low profile tires. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. Let's see... an alternative to lowering a bus... and cheap...
Oh, I know! How about not lowering the bus!
I suppose another alternative to lowering could be raising, but that would not be as cheap. _________________ John

| Yea, i know lowering and cheap do not go hand at hand! Hearing others experiences help, i didn't see there was already a forum open on the topic. 250 pages worth, guess i've got a lot of reading to do! |

drop spindles + re-indexing the back = pretty cheap.
probably cost less than a set of properly rated tires _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 93 Multivan 5cyl 5M/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

| Probably the cheapest way to lower a bus is to buy one someone else has already lowered thus killing the value of. |

Ha, I was just thinking the same thing. I've lowered a few buses that way in my day. Helping people move gets the same result. _________________ '03 MV |

I'll be happy when people outgrow the feeling that they need to lower a bus. Some day there might be a good market for offering a reversal service. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I love these comments. Baywindow purists are funny.
OP,
Cheap low isn't easy and easy low isn't cheap. |

Meh. I've ridden in a lowered Bay -- no thanks. I like my spine and fillings the way they are.
And not having to slow down for every pothole, speedbump, piece of road debris, parking lot/driveway entrance, unpaved road... |

| someday id like to ride in a bay that's been lowered with just the drop spindles in front and a horseshoe plates in the back. the way those methods work doesn't seem like it would change the handling characteristics very much.... |

People, you're not listening! The OP said he was looking for alternatives to lowering a bus. That means doing other things to the bus besides lowering it. The cheapest way to not lower a bus is not to lower the bus. I don't understand why you keep talking about lowering buses! Clearly he wants to do something else. _________________ John

It's their vehicle, why can't they do with it how they please? If that's "their style" let bygones be bygones. I personally love the look of any vw thats been slammed with the exception of a vanagon or thing _________________ Mesa Designs Custom Graphix - Specializing in vinyl graphics work and custom tee shirts.

not to get all spelling-policey, but 'alliterative' means pertaining to alliteration, nothing to do with a bus. unless we're talking a big black bouncy bus.
thread titles can be changed by the OP. or alternative-ly we can just go on mentally changing the spelling of the thread title every time we look at it. _________________ SL |

Wow. Good catch, Scott. I totally read that as "alternative"...
This must be what he is after:
Alright, alliteration aside, altitude adjustment alternatives alienate all aircooled authenticists. _________________ John
