Very nice!
Looks like you started with a quality Van and just kept up that standard!
I couldn't help but see Dollar signs floating away on every post you made.
Would you be willing to state how deep you are into this unit? Such information may motivate some....... And terrify others! .... (like me)
Job well done!

You gotta pay to play. I see more sweat than parts money and that's kinda hard to quantify. I couldn't sell mine so I may double down and do some of these mods myself. When you had down the builders path you might as well hold onto it for life. My carat is almost there, short the hole in the roof. _________________ One day as a lion, or a lifetime as lamb

So here is a couple pics of the interior so far. Mind you its got a long way to go. The A/C will be moved to new housing that will be attached to the bottom of the bunk we build. The headliner will be cleaned up and tucked nicer, lights added, storage area door added. Lots to do still.
What a punk...I want to sit in a Recaro..
Storage area...
Also talked to John http://canadianhightops.ca/ and am having the prototype back window made and sent down to me to try out so thats exciting. Stayed tuned and hope to see ya on the road

Looking good. I had a white Carat from 97 till last year. Always wanted to put a high top on her. Excited to see how yours turns out.
We just put a deposit down on one of the tops down in Vancouver for our Syncro. I might be more excited to see how mine turns out. _________________ 90 Syncro "Priscilla" |

Ad placed 3/23/14 Price is $41000
Might do a partial trade for a vanagon pop top multivan or pop top weekender or a full westy if it has the extra seat. Must seat at least 5. with a bad motor or no motor(I have a motor already). Body must be in good shape. I cant keep my fancy van but I still need a vanagon hehe.
1990 Carat New Adventurewagen Top Tons of Upgrades Price: 41000
So with a sad heart its time to sell the most awesome rig I have ever owned. Over the last 9 months I have built this thing to be my forever van, so everything was done right with only the best parts available. It started as a really nice stock carat from Riverside CA and has underwent a major transformation. It has zero rust and is exceptionally clean. The Hightop gives you tons off overhead inside storage. Its also double walled insulated. Here are the specs.
Stuff done in the last 9 months:
*Rocky Mountain Westy Twin Peak Front and Rear Bumpers with hitch
*Rocky Mountain Westy Deluxe Grill Gaurd
*Rocky Mountain Westy Side Ladder
*Hella HID Optilux Lights on Grill Gaurd(Crazy Bright)
*Hella H4 Headlights With high quality HID Conversion(also Crazy Bright lol)
*Complete Exterior LED conversion
*Smoked Tail lights and blinkers
*Go Westy 1.5" Lift springs
*Go Westy Bilstein Shocks
*Voxx 16" Wheels
*Yokohama 215/70/16 Geolanders A/T s
*Fiamma 10 ft F45s Awning in Titanium with blue(Awesome)
*Brand New North American Hightops Adventurewagen top Completely trimmed out inside. Color match paint job on it. looks awesome.
*158 solar panel and solar charger
*Fantastic fan with automatic rain sensor
*Dub Flecta Rain gaurds
*Go Westy Propane Tank
*Propex furnace
*Line X lower parts of the van even under bumpers
*LLoyds Mats front middle back
*Recaro SE Seats in Gray(super comfy)
*Smitty built center security consule
*Every dash and Interior light converted to LED
*Eurovan steering wheel
*Top of the line Kenwood CD Player with Blue tooth/USB 2 Ipod hookups and Hands free calling
*High End hertz speakers
*Clifford Alarm
*Keyless Entry
*Custom built mini Kitchen. Pops in and out with 1 latch. Then you can put the other jump seat in if you need two. Stainless Sink, Whale marine Faucet, Sharp Half-Pint microwave, 4 gallons of fresh water Rotopax, shelf for a coffee maker.(This is a amazing set up)
*ARB 50 quart fridge
*ARB Fridge slide out
*1100 watt Invertor
*2 Stinger Auxillary Batteries with a perko switch
*Front hammock By Sammy Soul Shop so it sleeps 5. Its sturdy i can lay on it.
*GoWesty Memory Foam topper up top. comfy
*Peloquin TBD Limited slip. This is awesome makes you almost as good as a syncro.
*New Ring and Pinon
Things done in 2010:
*GoWesty New 2.2 liter Engine. now has about 28k on it.
*GoWesty New Automatic Transmission, also has 28k and was just freshly serviced.
*New Radiator and all hoses
*Stainless steel coolant pipes
*New Gas Tank lines and reseal
*Undercoated
*New 2 stage professional paint job, done right, looks great. Factory Pastel white.
*Brakes front rear
*Lots and lots more. Have all receipts. 2 folders full.
The Basics:
Power everything and A/C
All wiring for the whole van was professionally done by Justin Hall of Streamline audio. As was the top install and lots of other custom work. This guy is top notch and a perfectionist Vanagon guru. This van is Amazing. Even better in person. Seats 7 with the kitchen out and It sleeps 5 easily, 2 up top, 2 in the lower queen, 1 front hammock. I have the 3rd window for the hightop(back one) it will be installed soon. The Peloquin TBD limited slip makes cruising the backwoods and running on the beach a breeze, without the maintenance of a syncro. Look at a ton of Vans then come see mine. Sorry forgot to wash it. will put up new pics after I do lol. |

I guess I could have added more.. why the heck would I want to post an ad for someone else's flip?
my post was to ADD the AD to the original post as we've all (ok maybe some) been aroused by this project and once it's sold, the ad text history would be lost.
to add some context and possibly discussion here for us (armchair viewers) the OP and potential new owner.
it's a beautiful van and possibly outgrew the OP, possibly too nice for him to justify the ownership of or maybe needs a new project and some quid in his pocket for his labors as they're outlined here in good detail.
maybe It's just 1am here. and I need some sleep..
probably that..
nice van, GLWS and look'n forward to future projects.. _________________

Good looking Van! The hightop isn't my thing but I appreciate the work that's gone into it. From the sounds of the ad, it seems there is something pushing the sell. Hope all works out well! _________________ In search of a Vanagon

Not a flip....Tax man blind sided us. Instead of going into debt figured this was the best route for my family as I own the van outright. Trust me my whole family is devastated by this. My 4 and 10 year old are having a hard time dealing with this as its their clubhouse. My 10 year old said he would sell all his toys if we could keep StormyVan...heartbreaking for a dad. I am hoping to soften the blow by getting another Vanagon...it just wont be as fancy. If anyone has any questions I am happy to answer them all. I built this van to keep forever... but sometimes life takes a wicked twist and you just have to keep on living and who knows maybe something good will come of it.

First off Ryan, I'm really sorry to hear your in this spot, hope it all works out well for you...as for the little guys...My kids came to realise I have to build everything 3 times to get it perfect...No2 will be even better

And Dan
This is a really good idea I didn't see where you were going
I have about a dozen adds I've copied and filed, as comparables to my van. when and if there is ever need of a valuation.
I know they are lost once sold....and copying the details to the list, to preserve it is genius
We need somewhere that exceptional van "forsale" and sell prices could be archived for the benefit of all
Is there some way to do that on Samba? |

I'm very sorry to see it go! Your van has been a big source of inspiration for me. A true labor of love.
I now have a carat with an AW top
I'm currently finishing the interior of my AW top and building a new ac cabinet has me a bit frustrated. Did you happen to get any pictures of this process? _________________ 89.5 Whitestar edition |

Hi -FYI - in the original AW's, the air conditioner condenser and blower were commonly located in the front storage compartment. There are much smaller more efficient condenser/blowers now and depending on the shape of your current AC hoses, you would have to either extend or replace them. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

sorry - my lack of knowledge of AC systems is showing - AFAIK - the condenser (the rad) was in the stock location, the evaporator unit and blower, i.e. the part that is commonly located in the headbanger westy overhead rear cabinetry, was located up in the front storage area. The old ones took up a lot of space, but the new ones move more air, and colder and are more compact. _________________ NAHT hightop availability May 18 2023 -

Just a few thoughts not knowing the situation:
Get a good tax attorney.
Negotiate (yes, the IRS will negotiate).
At least try to work out a payment plan that would enable you to keep your van.
Keep the faith. |
