I just bought a 1970 van and the rear right turn indicator does not work. all others work. Brake light works fine, bulb looks great. The contact points seem good, mostly very clean. Any other suggestions? I really don't like not having that indicator, have had a lot of angry people honking and yelling. I tried the search function but did not have much luck.

So only the right rear isn't working? Does the front one blink fast?

It's very likely a problem in the turn signal switch. I'd suggest you dismantle it far enough to see if any
of the solder connections have come loose, which you might be able to repair.

Perhaps like this guy did: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=603929.

Yea that's what I had. The tail light assembly grounds down to the body through the screws, if it doesn't ground then no blinking.

thank you for all the help, haven't had an air cooled since 1999. My wife bought me this one two weeks ago so I have something to do while recovering from a brain injury. Needless to say my memory is not what it once was.

Front signal is not blinking fast, hazards work all the way around, and the brake light works fine. I will try the other suggestions. Thanks again for the advice.

Hi
I would clean the grounds as suggested.
Sometimes the bulb can look good but the filament is broken. Hold the bulb between your fingers and flick it with you other finger. Watch the filament and see if it is broken.
Good Luck
