'69 pop top camper mobile steering wheel locks randomly!

I just bought a bus (Oskar the not so wonderful bus) and he's got a few quirks. The main safety problem though is that his steering wheel randomly locks, even while going down the road. It's alarming at best, and deadly at worst.

While I'm decently mechanically adept I'm having issues taking the stuff that i've found in the forums and applying them to the bus.


So, I'm looking for suggestions as to the easiest way to permanently disable he steering wheel lock on a bus. As far as I can tell the steering wheel and column are the stock ones.

Just for anyone else's information the problem ended up being a combo of two things, the steering wheel lock and ignition lock are part of the same problem. My main one was crap stuffed in the override but also an issue with it being an unmaintained original ignition switch.
The solution was a new switch.
