|
|
Hello - Got this bus, to start it here is the procedure:
1. turn key to on position, electric fuel pump, starts pumping getting gas
2. orange light goes off and I turn key to fire up the bus.
3. turns over for 3 or 4 seconds and stops.
4. rinse and repeat until bus starts.
5. the longer i let electric fuel pump run the more turn over of the motor I get.
Any suggestions?
74 VW Sportsmobile Bay bus
1700 pancake motor, dual carbs
New wiring harness all runs good, when it runs
thanks in advance

After step 3, we have 3a, I cant turn the key back on and immediately try again. It seems like the pump needs power to charge up or something before I can fire it up again?

Lets clarify your use of the statement "turn over", do you mean the starter rotates the engine and nothing else happens?, or starter rotates the engine and it begins to fire like it's trying to run? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

As in it just stops turning like you let go of the key? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Nope, key is turned, and it turns over a couple of times and stops completely. Then I have to turn off the key and do the same steps all over once again.
Sorry hope that helps. I can always tell you over the phone.

So a hard stop in the turnover of the engine. Like the alternator or power to it stops and I have to do it all over again.

You are saying that the engine just stops cranking after a few seconds and then you have to turn the key to the OFF position to get it to crank again?
To me this would sound like an ignition switch going out. Someone could have added a circuit breaker in the #50 circuit feeding the starter solenoid as well. |

Yep, turn it back to off position, wait 2/3 seconds, turn the key to on let the pump build up, engine starts cranking then stops again. rinse and repeat..
