I got the lower windshield fixed. I bent all the pieces in my bench top vise and fixed it by hand out of sheet steel.
Then i rebuilt the inner and outer valance by hand. Turned out perfect other then the seam in the middle. Filler primer will hide that. Then i boxed it all in. Also got the driver side lower dogleg rebuilt.

Then i started in on a narrowed adjustable beam. Got that built painted and installed. All of my heater tubes were removed or rotted away at some point. So i fixed that with a 10' piece of exhaust flex pipe i picked up for $10 not correct, but it gets the job done.
I made some custom door cards while i was it and polished up a pair of 1958 Bug door handles. The 67 only plastic ones were kinda chincy. Ill save em for later tho in case i decide to restore it completely one day. Ya never know with todays bus market...

Got a 68 longaxle bug trans installed. Flushed the fluids and new axle boots. Nothing special. Widefive Aaron is building the spindles and springplates. Great guy and i recommend him if your considering lowering your bus.

Love the project man - sweet! A would you mind talking about how you did your beam a bit? Are the cross tubes Og? Who did your side plates? How did you make sure they were welded on squarely? _________________ Jet City 1957 VW Oval Rag Build:

thanks man! The tubes are original, narrowed 4" with beam adjusters added. The side plate came from "detroit johnny" here on the samba. Actually widefive Aaron gave them to me, but i think detriot makes them. Nice quality stuff. Anyhow, after i cut the old beam up and got the tubes where they needed to be, i then bolted the end plates back onto my bus and used the bus itself and my jig/fixture. Then i slid the tubes into place and lined everything up nice and square. I gave it a bunch of nice hot tacks then pulled it back off and welded it solid. Easy peasy! _________________ Leroux's Autowerks “like us on fb”

Started in on the passenger side lower windshield repair. Got it all cut out.
Then using 20g sheet steel and a 12" ruler i cut strips out 12"x1" basically i laid the ruler on the steel and used it as a templet.
Then i took the pieces and clamped them in my vise leaving 3/8" out the top. I used a hammed and smacked them flat creating a 90 degree bend.
Heres what it looked like when i was done.
Then with a cut off wheel i made slices in the leg and formed the radius. I pre-formed it and then welded the slices solid and sanded them off. I ran out of time today to finish it. All of it has new steel now. Ill weld it out and post pics tomorrow.

Thank you! I used 3m rubbing compound and a wool wheel on a low speed buffer/polisher. After i washed the bus i wet sanded the whole thing with 2000grit before i buffed it out. _________________ Leroux's Autowerks “like us on fb”

I painted the window frame. After the donor roof was welded in and the and all the welding work up the pillars, i kinda had to. It's a tad to bright, but after i wet sand it and it gets dirty a few times, it'll match up. I used no filler. Just filler primer. Theres dents, dings and scratches all over. Its more suiting to have them in the frame too lol.
