I stand corrected! Still, I do wonder how the mower-drive is set up... Hmm...

				| One from a show today; Brazillian CKD/South African built RHD bus, current owner bought it with the suicide doors fitted, using LHD split cargo door latches. Didn't seem too phased about the possibilty of one popping open when driving despite them being single stage non-bearclaw locks. He has modified the front panel and rear to make it look earlier. I guess it's a 70's bus but it's registered as a 1960!
Oh it still has the original door hinges fitted to the doors too...

Interesting. The one thing I find hardest to come to terms with in this thread, is how often it's ovals that are butchered to make things like this - how often have we seen VW's prettiest rear window cut off and discarded? I know often at the time these were just old cars, but some are much more modern builds. Start with a late car if you're going to cut it up past the point of no return (I like late cars but if you don't NEED an oval, don't use one)!
 |
There are a lot of cut up and left for dead beetle shells laying around. If I was looking to build a rod like this, and I found a 56 beetle that had been hacked to shit already, I wouldn't hesitate to use it. They can't all be restored to perfection.
 |
Yeah, that rod could easily have been an old baja car in a previous life. And if you live in the "salt belt", you'll find these cars rustier than most want to start with for a restoration. In my own opinion, it becoming a "rat rod" is just giving it another life, with someone spending time and money to keep it around.

				| I don't see why that is considered an abortion. It is a late model Brazilian Beetle. They retained the German 1958-1964 window size.

				| I don't think it is - Fusca's have the crescent vents behind the rear side windows.
Also Fusca's have 1300/1500 style bumper mounts at the front (brackets come through wings) rather than 1200 style valance mounted ones as here. Also appears to have 5 bolt early wheels?
