I have a '71 super with a 1600dp. On the left side of the engine compartment is a little gizmo, but it does not seem to be attached to anything. What the heck is it? Also there is a blocked vacuum port on the manifold if that helps.
Thanks
jerome

that sounds like a long ago disconncted emissions component, yes the vacume port off the left side manifold once went to it. not to a vacume on the dizzy.

Its actually for the carbuerator. Called a de-acceleration valve, located on the left side. From a vacumn feed off the manifold it would supply vacumn to a small vacumn valve behind the carb. The intent was to keep the idle up high when you let off the gas pedal and then slowly let it drop down to 900 rpm. Smog device to reduce emmissions that most have disconnected with no problems.
