I recently put a new AC compressor in my 93 EV. there were no instruction with it nor does the shop manual say anything about filling with oil or charging the system. The compressor has been installed and we have been driving the van, just have not turned on the AC (still winter here in eastern Oregon).

Is there anything besides charging the system with new r134a that I should do?

thx
David

Very Happy when you put the pump on, you are supposed to put a few teaspoons of the special oil and turn it by hand to pre-lube the mechinism. You must have the system evacuated and refilled with new refrigerant. the average joe at home can add, but if the system has been compromised, it must be serviced by someone with the propper equipment. I would also suggest replacing the reciever/dryer... Something like 90% of the oil in the system is trapped in there. They are fairly cheap, and then you can add the ammount of oil recomended in the Bently manual.
Did the compressor actually go bad, or was the clutch just fried?? if the compressor actually took a crap, make sure that it didn't send shrapnell down the line to cause problems later.. Twisted Evil

Only the clutch went bad. I'll make sure I put the oil in it before charging and using the system. I'll also consider the replacing the dryer.

thx

Very Happy Remember, you need to completely evacuate the system with a machine that will create a good vaccume. Twisted Evil
