I'm trying to sort out a sloppy gear change, so decided to change the bush and the coupling, however, when I pulled out the shift rod, it was bent:

Is this right?
I would have thought it was meant to be straight.

Supposed to be. Clean it up good and grease it good before reinstalling.

mine was bent, but it wasn't that bent.

Actually, it does seem to be bent to a pattern, so I guess it's ok, just can't get the bugger back in!
Discovered I have an adjustable front beam and the adjuster is in the damned way!

Just about to fit the new shift rod bushing, however it is a loose fit between the tow rubber pads, is this normal? shouldn't it be snug?
If so, can I pack it out with something?

If your shift rod is bent and leans to one side more than the other, perhaps you should try "shifting" with your other hand for a while.
