So. in the drivers side D pillar, there is the snorkel, and elbow out to the air cleaner, and an electric blower of some sort? This used to run when I had the JX in, but then never ran after the AAZ conversion.
After having the dealer swap out the head (Long story!), this thing runs constantly!
What is it's function?
What is it supposed to be attached to? (Mine had 6 inches of hose on it. Not enough to go anywhere....)
Where is the sensor located?
Any help you guys can offer would be great.
BTW- There is no mention of it in MY Bentley. _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

That is the turbo cooler, it should run for a few seconds every time you start the vehicle (to keep the bearings free) but after that it should only run if the engine is very hot (usually AFTER you shut off the engine). It has a short length of hose that directs the air onto the turbo.
There should also be an electric aux water pump that runs at the same time, it's purpose is to circulate coolant to the head, again in times of high heat.
If your cooler is running even when the engine is on then the wiring/relays are at fault. If it runs every time you shut off the engine (should run for about three to five minutes) then your engine is overheating and you need to address your cooling system.
There is a wiring diagram on the 80-90 forum somewhere, I'll try to find.
These pictures are from a Doka, but very similar to Vans.
The hose that goes to the turbo is off in this picture.
The aux water pump is the gold colored object in the lower right corner, and you can see the hose from the blower going to the turbo in the upper left corner. It dips down past the coolant res. This engine compartment is of a JX converted to AAZ.

Yup. That's the one. I have a JX/ AAZ conversion too. The secondary water pump works just fine, it's the blower that confused me.
Someone told me to change my thermostat, and that would help my cooling issue. ( I have it on order.)
Anyone know where I can get the tube for this to work properly? _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

HA! Now that is a good one! I've been living in Germany for six years now. Take a wild guess at how many T3's (or any car over 20 years old!) I have found on the shelves here? (Yes, the wreckers here stock shelves with cars, like Costco...).
80% of my parts come from the Dealer, who in turn has to order them from Classic Parts. And even though it is Germany, these orders take a week to get to the Dealer. NOTHING takes a week to be delivered in Germany.
I can't even find AAZ parts at the local DAPS (not foreign here...).
Mainly, I need a part number. THEN I can find it.
(Don't get me started on ordering parts in Germany!) _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Nah man, I understood it to be the steel pipe that bolts to the manifold, and directs the air to the turbo body. The other parts I have already.
Anything AAZ or JX, I can not find at a wrecker here. It is too old. I checked Gunzel and eBay, but no luck.
It would be heroically awesome if someone had a part number...... _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Cool, thank you.
As soon as I find an image of one, I might just give it a try.....

...and I thank you for that. That is where I got this picture from. Local dealer can get it from Classic Parts for 150Euro
So, you say it should be easy to make....?
I might have to give that a shot. So, MsTaboo, have you any more pictures of the part in question? Say, maybe before it was installed? Dimensions? _________________ 1990 Feldjäger Syncro AAZ

Here is that wiring diagram. It wasn't where I originally thought it was.
I would suggest printing it out in case it disappears like other sites have.

As for the your missing parts, do you mean the metal tube that directs cool air onto the turbo? If so, you may be able to make one, it's pretty basic. It simply points the air towards the outside of turbo.
Otherwise, wreaking yard or classifieds. _________________ Currently:

All the CIS Injection Audi 100 and 200 cars (1984 to 1991 in the U.S.) with turbos used that same fan/blower to cool off the CIS injector hoses. They also used the same coolant after-run pump. This does not solve the problem of finding blower end for your turbo, but considering how hard it is to get these historic parts, I thought I would mention this.
I also noticed that lots of vintage '80s and '90s Audi and VW parts show up on ebay in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Czech Rep. and Slovak Rep. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |
