Anyone else seem to find these belts a little short?

I just finished installing them in my 67 and everything fit great, but they are just barely long enough for me with the seat one stop forward from all the way back. My wife, who prefers the seat a little forward, thinks they are too short for her to reach and get something from the glove box or turn around to do something with my kid in the back seat, etc.

Anyone else have this experience? They're a great deal and fit fine, I'm just surprised that they would fit a soldier in a Humvee.

Finally got a kit myself. Super fast shipping.

The kit looks great. I am amazed how similar they are to the factory vw belts.

I started following this thread last winter because my retractable belts had lost their return spring. What a pain in the butt, always getting shut in the door or laying on the seat like a limp....errr...noodle. I finally ordered a set, glad he was still selling them and after all the great feedback they got here on thesamba, I decided to give them a try. Another contributing factor was that I noticed I could only activate the catch about 1 out of 10 times on the drivers side and the passanger belt wouldn't catch at all.
I'm so glad I did! They came in only 3 days and fit like they were made for a VW not a Humvee. With only minor modification, I installed them in alittle over an hour and they look and work GREAT! I would definately reccommend these to anyone needing new retractable belts in their bug. Thanks for the heads up and info guys!

The original eBay listing for the belts has expired. But I found the same seller with this item:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TWO-NEW-3-POINT-AUTO-RETRA...33a212ce2b

For those who bought the original Humvee set, does this new listing include everything the original listing had that we need (not the metal stamped parts, in other words.)

Yes, the seller is " hdps_corp" which is same where I bought my retractable belts. I like them a lot. Yes, I had to buy brackets for the bottoms (CIP1 or Chuck's Convertible Parts). My kit had some green metal brackets in the box, but those were not used or needed. Just like those two "L" brackets in his photos, you won't use those.

I just made an order for these belts. These are nice and my old ones are absolutely trash. Also got the adapter from CP1. Have a great day, Joe

Thanks. I just ordered the more bare-bones set from the seller, and he confirms its the same stuff you get in the complete Humvee set, but without the Humvee stuff. So all is good.

I thought I would bring this thread back up, it's been 3 years since I ordered these Humvee belts, now ready to start installing them. May be of interest to others.

From what I can tell I "think" I need the 90* brackets from CIP1 but I will check the OEM versions I removed to see what's in there.

3 years in the box lol...

I am looked to order some of these awesome Humvee 3 point seat belts. Does anyone know if there is any difference between a set of front seat belts and rear? The reason I ask is that a rear set is 10 bucks cheaper.

Also I am looking to replace the retractable lap seat belts in the back seat of my 73 standard beetle. Does anyone have an recommendations that are as awesome as these Humvee seat belts?

Wow just read all 12 pages, but well worth it!! The link has has expired 2X...LOL. Looks like this is the new link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TWO-3-POINT-FRONT-SEAT-BEL...1762473515

I think the original price was $17.95; looks like they are up to $45.50, but still worth it based on what others in this thread have posted. I will order mine today. I have non-retractable on my 71SB & they drive me crazy!!

Mike

Update: ordered & the brackets from Cpi1

Put the military ones in my 72 and did have to order the 90 degree bracket. They are nice and safe too.

Order the three point Humvee belts for the back, install them like in the pictures above. There's a threaded hole just under the headliner for the upper bolt, just feel for it and punch through. I installed them in the back and have been very pleased.

I was also wondering about this, I think that the threaded hole is in the pic below - it's at the upper part of the rear curve, to the right about 12-14 inches or so from the blue tape. I would prefer having shoulder belts back there rather than lap belts.

Hey Relyt,

I love this idea. I have the headliner out of my beetle right now so I can clearly see the threads for the shoulder point of the seat belts. Where did you mount the retractable portion of the seat belt for the back seats? A picture of that would be awesome.
