I purchased this 1986 Vanagon, autumn 2016.
It was a none runner and the previous owner could tell that the only problem with it, was a leaking oil pan. He had used too much force when changing the oil 3 years ago, so the pan had got a crack and was now leaking oil. Ok, I bougth the car and got a welded oil pan with me. As the car was not running, we had to hire a towcar to bring it home.
Well at home I did change the oil pan, and fill it with fresh oil. I turned the igniton on and nothing happened!!!! Well so much for the only fault was the cracked oil pan. I did quickly figure out that the starter motor was faulty. The motor was beyond repair, so I was forced to buy a new one. After some days in the mail, the new starter was finally here and the work could start again. After an hour work I was very exited to start it. And guess what, the engine turned over and fired up after a few secounds of cranking O'Boy was I happy. All dash lamps seems to function as they should and everything looked good.

Very nice T3!
Can you take some photos of the fridge/stove cabinet as we did not get your type in North America.
I am curious to see the stove/sink arrangement.
Great work on the Westy
Best!

That is an interesting cabinet configuration that I don't recall seeing before.

I was thinking the same...and that if it were cut down so that is was only as long as the metal stove/sink unit, it "might" fit in a Weekender interior in place of the rear facing seat and still allow the flip up table to work. (ditching the fridge in the process) _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

This cabinet arrangement is pretty common on the Eurp spec westys. Some of the ones we saw were the result of owners doing a "Mosaik" build. See this link:
http://www.westfaliat3.info/html/westfalia_mosaik_self_install.html
As I understand it, it was a do-it-yourself money saver that was offered in Europe. We owned a westy that had this set-up, but didn't really like it so much. The corner seat was pretty small & it really cuts down on food storage space. But, YMMV. _________________ '69 Squareback RIP

The '84 high top Westy we rented in Holland to drive around Europe last year had that interior with matching cushions in the corner.
It was very comfortable and useful for the two of us. _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Did install a starter button in my vanagon some days ago. And guess what, it's working excellent
Have now tested the button for some days, and I will have to say that it's way easier to start the car with the button compare to turning the key. This because of the big steering wheel that is in the way.
I did also install an outside temerature gauge in the steering column.
