Hi
I been in the process of restoring my 1962 rag pan. I have a set of the 1962 only brackets that are to be installed on the pan.
I read the bulletin literature on the previous page, which gives a vague location of the brackets in relation to the pan. I would like to weld these brackets in, but im not confident with there exact location?
Could someone point me in the right direction? A three point location would be great? Or if someone knows a insert or section in the Bentley Manual?
Thanks _________________ 1961 Type 1

Use the 62 rear floor kick panels as the placement guide.. .

I thought of that, but I'm still looking for a set of the kick panels. I have the brackets, ducting just not the kick plates. _________________ 1961 Type 1

Ouch, yeah, kind of pricey especially with one of them looking a bit buggered up around the heater outlet. _________________ Andy T.

Hmmm..
I had no problem getting a $100 out of pair
They were nicer though..
Using them is IMO the easiest way to spot the proper floor ring position
Dont like a price.. dont pay.. Its that simple
You can't run down to the VW dealer or Chinamart and get them.. and I doubt anyone can shit them..so.... buy some or make some.. I was simply just passing them along..
Making a pair.. one could position the rings in the panels and on the floor in position to match.... even if they are not in the EXACT to the MM VW location..
Whine on

I've got the original kick panels in my 62. I could make you a pair of templates out of cardboard and mail them to you. I have my original brackets but not installed after new pans. You could easily make a set out of 1/8" plywood and cover with vinyl. I could take measurements and pics of the brackets to make a set. I intend to keep mine but I have all the heat going to the front so not using. Knowing they are 1 year only, I had them media blasted and preserved in case I decide to put heat in the back. Let me know if you want templates and info.

My May 1962 Australian built beetle has a stock rear heater set up.
The outlet for the rear is on the RHS (Drivers Side here of course see photo below).
I drive my bug each Saturday night. I always turn the heater on/off during the trip - purely for effect and know that its working.
Last Saturday night I reached back seat feet area. I could .... just .... feel some warmth coming through the two rear slots. Nothing to write home about.
At the same time (and with the front floor vents closed) I rated the force of the warmth being delivered via the two front windscreen vents and the left hand side was outperforming the right by 50%.
Now I've seen this post, and scrutinized my heaters & outlets, seems I have some adjusting to do.
Here are some photos of my set up which I believe is stock/original.

Stale air actually gives pretty good airflow, it's basically all of the engine cooling air directed into the heater, it just doesn't smell that great. And since I no longer have a sense of smell, I really don't care!
Yes, bopping around town you don't get whole lot of benefit from those rear seat outlets. But on the freeway it's Okay. I once gave a lift to a chick who took off her wet shoes and put them behind the front seat. 170 miles on the interstate later... those shoes were more than dried out, they no longer fit, because they had shrank! _________________ Andy T.

Just wondering if one of you lovely 62 Beetle owners, can measure their articulated metal hoses that carry the heat from the exchanger to the body?
Are they also different lengths left and right? Your help is much appreciated. |

Thanks, yes those are the ones! Have found another supplier that sells them per 500cm or approximately 20inches, so just need the length that they span.👍🏻 |
