I finally found the manufacturer of these internal springs that goes insde the factory rear springs. Thanks to someone on the FB VW T3 tristar, tristar syncro and tristar syncro 16 page, he sent this link:

http://mad-suspension.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=517

I took a screen shot for future reference in the eventuality that mine breaks and I need one, or for anyone else looking for adding rear weight to their vw vanagon.

MAD Suspension System part number: HV-198045

Awesome Pedro, I hope to get over and see it in person pretty soon. Been incredibly busy lately. What is weight of the Gypsy?

Thanks Wellington!
Come on down anytime, brother!

The official weight on my registration is 2130 kg (4695 lbs). The german TUV does calculate the added weight of the 1.9 AFN TDI.
This wedsite says its 2060 kg (4541 lbs) for a diesel gipsy.

A regular 2wd westy is around 1950 kg (4300 lbs).

Photo 116 and 117 shows the gipsy's rear springs. Not sure, maybe its the angle of the picture or something, but the rear springs look different from my westy, like shorter and fatter springs. They also have a smaller spring inside the big spring... I'll look into it...

Another thread dredge...

Love your Gipsy Pedro! Now, I want one! I know, it’s likely never going to become a reality as these are so rare.

But let me indulge you with a story of what led me to wanting one of these Gipsies. Cool

I live in PDX and I’m a 787 Pilot (First Officer) out of SFO. I am what is called a “commuter”- live in one place, start my trips out of another. I’m currently a “lineholder” which means I have regular (known, at least a month at a time) schedule. But I’m thinking of upgrading to Captain on the 757 when my seniority makes it available to me, probably in the next 2 years. The problem will be, that I will be very junior in the Capt position and will be on “reserve” which is akin to “on-call” for 18 days a month. A lot of commuters on reserve get into crash pads, an apartment that many pilots/flight attendants share to be close to their domicile on reserve days. Others get boats in the marina. Neither options appeals to me. I started looking at maybe getting another Vanagon camper and putting it at the employee lot at SFO. On reserve days, I’d get in the van and hang out in the city or ‘burbs somewhere. But “living” in the city environment in a Vanagon isn’t very inconspicuous ya know? So I started looking at Sprinters, and other mini-RVs like a VW Rialta. Sprinter = expensive. Rialta = not as expensive but a lot bulkier. I want the freedom of movement that I’m used to in my Vanagon. Then saw a dude on the VanAlert app that had a Vanagon and a Gipsy. And here I am dredging an old thread... Hope y’all don’t mind. Anyways, this will be in my daily search. Very Happy
