Got mine in,, Maybe I am a picky fucker, but I didn't think it was a generic cover to go over your existing dash, but a replacement dash. Now I have to find a dash for this one to cover it???? _________________ There are no stupid questions, only stupid people,

Nope, read the instructions, it is a replacement, but not an exact OE copy. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

Step1,, "If fitting the new dash cover over the old one, trim old dash to fit snugly before fitting to car."
Step3, use foam filler and cling wrap

I'm still waiting for warm weather before I install the 1 I got. Don't know about others on here, but we just got above 32*F 3 days ago, with cold weather returning for the weekend (and next week). That kind of weather puts me in hibernation mode for a while, as it's hard to get motivated when the temps are in single digits for highs. Don't even get me started on overnight lows (in the minus 0's), or factoring in wind chills. Needless to say I don't like the cold. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

sorry I'm kinda picky |
Most ,like in 99% have fitted it strait on to the steel, it has rigidity and form to do that, I my self have fitted two, one on the old dash and one on its own, and the one on its own looks and feels better, as fitting it to a bent and blistered old dash is not easy.
From the maker, I think go with the flow, and fit it without the old dash, if not happy you can always go to point "1"
Here is a copy of the instructions, and it is an "Either Or" not a step 1, step 2,step 3
(For LHD, left becomes right and right becomes left)
1) If you fitting the new dash over the old one, trim old dash to fit snugly before fitting to car. Then go to 3
2) If using Foam filler, place cling wrap on steel dash, spray small amount of foam in dash , press onto cling wrapped steel dash, and hold till dry. Repeat till full, and then trim to fit BEFORE mounting to car. Then go to 3
3) when fitting as is, offer up to mount location, ensure fit, by trimming and filling. Warm dash by placing in sun, or hot water. Mount RIGHT Gauge 1st, fully installed. Then Center Gauge, working through the other hole, ensure all wires and Speedo cable mounted. Then LEFT gauge, Once all gauges are fitted and fully working , Mount Handel via dash to steel part of body, Then mount surround of dash with old removed screws, and touch up with a dab of black paint on the screw head.

I just re-installed the aftermarket POS dash pad that came with my '68 Squareback. So much work to make the car nice again and all I can see is the dash pad that looks like ASS right in front of me!
I think I'm on the list, any update on availability?
Thanks,
Dave

Definitely want a STD, LHD dash. I don't know how to add my name to the list.
I'll take up to 4 of them if necessary to fill up the list to get another batch into production. With holes preferred but happy to have without if that's what's available.
Thanks,
Dave |

Hi Guys,
Just a bit busy in my saltmine and no time for dash making.
Will get into it again in a few months time, and as it would appear, need to run one more batch.
But please be patient as this all takes time.
Will not drop you. till then

Pencil me in for two more Standards with split speaker holes and another wraparound just because.
I think you're pulling our legs with this "last run" story though. It's good for sales.
Make sure you moisturize to counteract the effects of the salt. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Will do Tram,
Love helping the guys with dash's, but its a lot of work, preparation, getting the machine time sorted and if they then block up the spares room waiting to the odd order, it's no fun.
Not sure how many are still needed, so we will try to plan one more.

Sure Tram will make one if you ask him nicely....
The more complete your car is the more complicated it is.
The best is if you have no seats and no windscreen, no steering wheel.
But that said, its still possible to install when your car is complete, just takes patients, and clear thinking by following point 3 on the instructions.
