Patrick F. McManus, a prolific writer best known for his humor columns in fishing and hunting magazines who also wrote mystery novels and one-man comedy plays, has died. He was 84.
McManus wrote monthly humor columns for more than three decades for the popular magazines Field & Stream and Outdoor Life, the columns later appeared in books. He also wrote other books, more than two dozen in all that included a guide for humor writers, and a series of mystery novels with a darker form of humor involving fictional Blight County, Idaho, and Sheriff Bo Tully. Altogether, he sold more than 5 million copies and appeared on the New York Times best-seller list. |
Sad news- he became a friend of my dad's many years ago when my pop worked in north Idaho. They would be about the same age this year come to think. _________________

Radio host Art Bell. RIP. |
I sure am sad we lost a great late night talk show host with Art being gone. He has not done his show himself for a couple of years now but he was a lot of fun to listen to. They will probably play some of his old shows on the AM radio tonight or Monday night sure worth tuning in if you have never heard him.
Art left Network AM radio "Clear Channel" years ago and has been doing Ham radio and he pioneered the Podcast and now his show is run by his apprentice http://artbell.com/ Heather Wade and it's just as good as Art Bell was. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

Always liked him...he seemed like a gentleman on the court. I **think** I saw him make his XX,000th point in a game against the San Diego Rockets....way back when. He was on the 67 Philadelphia 76ers NBA championship team. I looked up the roster and 8 of the 11 players are still alive. (Billy Cunningham, Larry Costello, Dave Gambee, Matt Guokas, Bob Weiss, Bill Melcionni, Wali Jones and Luke Jackson.) Add the late Wilt Chamberlain and Hal Greer and that was quite a team. _________________ Larry in OB

Dave Edgerton, the operations specialist in the twosome that founded Burger King in the mid-1950s, has died at age 90 from complications following a fall.
The Florida native died on April 3, but his death was not revealed until this week.
Edgerton was already a restaurateur when he met a business-minded fellow entrepreneur named Jim McLamore. Edgerton was poised to open his second unit of a quick-service restaurant called Insta Burger. McLamore convinced Edgerton to join forces and open the store under the name Insta-Burger King, with the name ultimately shortened to Burger King. _________________ What are the last 2 words of the National Anthem?

Bruno Leopoldo Francesco Sammartino (Bruno Sammartino), professional wrestler. He was 82, in the Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Known as “The Italian Superman,” Sammartino joined his immigrant father in Pittsburgh from Italy following World War II and began lifting weights, according to a statement released by the WWE. Professional wrestling promoter Vincent J. McMahon helped propel Sammartino into a star in sports entertainment, but it was his victory over Buddy Rogers at Madison Square Garden in 1963 that won him the WWE Championship. He held the title for nearly eight years — the longest reign in the organization’s history.
In the 1950s while lifting weights, training to be a wrestler, Bruno worked as a carpenter; he did the carpentry work on our basement in Eastmont on Gilmore Drive, installing wood paneling etc. My mom made him breakfast a few times, and he did eat a dozen eggs !!! My father worked out sometimes with Bruno in the Oakland section, and Bruno asked my father to be his manager, and my father said no.

Somewhat late but we regret to inform you on the death of Larry La Prise. Larry had the copyright on famous song “The Hokey Pokey” witnesses said there was great difficulty getting Larry in his casket when they’d put his right foot in then take it back out and turn him around it took way too many attempts to arrange him properly. Also consider this question, What if the hokey pokey is what it’s all about”. |
