Been trying to do some patch work on the FRONT seat of my December 1955 Single Cab, and the tubing of that one is 20mm OD. I found some nice pieces in my basement from a store fixture that are about 19mm, so I think I'm gonna use that. It will get covered anyway! Still trying to figure out how to nice tight bends on it. Electrical conduit bender are like 5inch radius and I need more like 2" radius.

These nice tubing pieces already have 90 degree bends in them so the plan is to utilize those bends. But I still have to do the 30 degree ish offsets they the rail jogs down.
Sellers offer air conditioning tube benders in 3/4 (20mm) OD size. If these benders are made with steel shoes, I would buy one.

Long seat? Yes.

Short seat? Technically yes but the outside leg, the one toward the cargo door, won't line up with the floor mounts so you would have to drill new holes or weld-in new mounts for that leg.

Hi!

Do you ever come across a middle seat for a 1965 standard walk-through split-window bus for sale? It's the 2/3 seat with the arm rest and the salt & pepper color.

I kick myself for agreeing to throw out the frame of a rusted middle-seat without upholstery probably about 40 years ago. My older brother wanted to get rid of it and I said Okay. Ouch!

Thanks,

It will be harder to find one with upholstery but watch the classifieds or post a wanted ad for either the exact seat you want or a frame.

The frame is the same from 58-66 so that is a larger range than the upholstery you need, which is 65-66

Edit:
There's one for sale right now but not cheap

Hi guys. I'm trying to define which year seats I have. Here's the middle seat. It definitely seems to be not correct for my bus which is 62, it looks older for me. I was wondering if it's missing one leg or something. I guess the seat is re-upholstered at some point by PO. What do you think?

What would be a suitable price for them both (middle seat + rear seat) if I decide to sell them? The rear seat is pretty much in the same condition with this.

It looks like a "6-leg" middle seat, which is for Barndoor Buses and Buses up through early 1956 but it may be a seat that has been pieced together from 2 different seats.

It appears that the legs have been modified so that the back rests can be removed and then bolted back on.
Yes, there is one leg missing on the bottom - you can see where it comes down on the backside.
The bottom looks strange though, there should be more cross-bars, here's another photo of the bottom of a 6-leg seat
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

See how the 6 "legs" that come down from the seat back connect to cross-bars on the bottom of the seat frame?

It may be a "6-leg" back rest on a later 56-57 seat bottom.
The large springs on the bottom ended in 1957 so that is why I say it might be a 56-57 seat bottom.

This might be a valuable seat and very hard to find, even though it has been modified, if it can be determined exactly what is there.

Can you post photos in your Gallery of the back seat too?
It would be good to see if it's from the same year.
Barndoor (pre March, 1955) rear seats and and 55 and later back seats are also slightly different.
The Barndoor rear seat back rest has 2 tabs that stick out, like this:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

and the bottom has a sharp center leg like this
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

(This is for later 1955 Buses too)

I uploaded photos of the rear seat to my gallery as well. But I don't want to post them here because the topic is about middle seats. Very Happy The back rest of the rear seat doesn't seem to have those barndoor tabs on them.

Interesting! So it seems that the middle seat has been modified quite a lot.

Anyone have experience with the reproduction seats? One seller right now has a full middle for my 66 for $1600.
A friend tells me he heard bad things about them, but my search didn't turn up anything. Thanks in advance.

Working on a short middle seat in Como for my 64 Standard.

I have the repro short with lower springbed width of 39" and a (3/4) WW Como cover plus seat pad that both appears to be 43".

The part in this thread (page 28 ) covering the backrest plate indicates 39" is the correct width for the short middle seat.

Everett wrote earlier in thread:

"Short middle seat: 59-66 are the same" and (page 36):

"I have a 2/3rd middle seat from a '63, the frame is the same as a '60 seat.
Do you mean measure the distance between the ends of the legs?
End to end, from outside leg to outside leg, is 43".

Does the width for the short seat indeed varies over the years and in case it did, for which years?

In case not, what would be the correct width for the 59-66 period?

Thnxs for helping to sort out what needs to be corrected.

As far as I know there are no differences in sizing for anything on the short seat between 59-66.
Is that what you are asking?

I have a bare original frame if you need anything measured.

If there were no sizing differences , your support will be very helpful. I donít see the logic why either the frame or the cover do not match.

Could you measure
- the width and depth of both the seat and back spring packages
- The distance between end of legs (end to end)
- A picture from somewhat aside to see the spring package position versus the frame legs (cargo doors site)
- Itís year of origin when you known.

I am aware of the 67 short seat exception, does this spring package differ in width or is it just the frame leg construction/position?

Thanks again!

Nice double flipper Rockstock!

I have a question on this grab bar in my 58 pressed bumper standard bus. It looks like most 58 pressed bumper pgsg buses came with a black grab bar... Does anyone know when these white/cream grab bars with the aluminum mounts were manufactured and for which models. I do know it had an ash tray mount on the back originally... Here are some pics to help with my question.
If it helps the only thing I have been able to find on this site is " early -mid '61 deluxes have white ribed vinyl material on the grab bar"
There has to be more info out there on this grab bar...

Original pic of the seat prior to getting it redone...

Nice score on that double flipper above!

On the vinyl grab bar seat above, what you posted is correct.

"early -mid '61 deluxes have white ribed vinyl material on the grab bar"
This is what Buses had this plastic-covered grab bar. 1961 Deluxes.

I can see your seat before it was redone has the upholstery for 59-61 Deluxe Bus.

Any idea how long these middle seats with the white ribbed vinyl material on the grab bars were produced? Just the one year?
