Time goes FAST! Yeah, ive got a bunch of pix i need to upload, right now Weld is in drydock cuz Caleb is doing an internship all summer at Lake Powell, between Utah and arizona? Fighting an invasive mussel species.
but we got short handed at work again, so working 6 tens doing the mail bag drag cuts into the volkswerkin
Is Ducky on the road again??
|
He's fighting the good fight, dad!! I bet things are not fun at work, how bad is the Amazon contract killing you?
Ducky isn't back on the road thought is finally close by. It's sad and needs a ton but nothing that can't be fixed. Milla is up in the classifieds, hopefully can find a new home where it will get some love.

They finally announced late last summer that zebras had been found in our local lake. The one my boat sits in all summer. I like to blame the folks from the next town over not properly cleaning their boats when they have to come over here because their lake gets blue-green algae about mid-summer. |
Up my way, double yellow lines and speed limits are just "suggestions," expired registrations are a warning for the first 6 months, inspection stickers are optional as long as you don't abuse it, but if you don't clean your boat before your trailer hits the roadway, all hell and brimstone comes crashing down on you, and if you are camping and bring in non-local firewood... god help you. There's been a few python and constrictors found in local rivers (not really a native Maine species...) from idiots losing or letting them loose so they take this invasive species thing pretty serious.
BTW, been getting caught up on thread and builds (like what you did, vwwestyman), I should be done by 2021... _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)

Did anyone answer Robbie's question on brake adjustment of dual wheel cylinder brakes on 1968-70 Bays?
The answer is no, you still have to adjust the two stars together, in order to keep the two wheel cylinder pistons in roughly the same position in their separate cylinders _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

Ok, long time with no update, but Caleb was gone all last summer fighting zebra mussels and then managed to hurt himself, so we didnt get a lot of work do e, and hes headed back to school next week. BUT.. we did manage to get that gawdawful hacked wiring harness out and put the new one in. There are alot of threads that talk about it, but I was pretty perplexed as to how to get it back in.
I think the removal pictures are on calebs ipod, if i can find them ill post them, but the trick was to use 550 cord (or parachute\survival cord) βgutβ. I hooked two strands of it to the front of the old wiring harness, then two strands of it to the back, using duct tape.
You lift up all the tab things that keep it into place. I actually videod myself taking it out so I wouldnt forget
I then pulled it out from the middle, leaving two pieces of gut hanging from the dash to the middle and two pieces hanging from the engine bay to the middle of the frame, figuring if one piece broke, I could always use the second piece
Somehow the rear string got messed up, so I used an electricians flexible rod to just run two lengths from the back.. its a short run

Good to see you still plugging away, my friend! I had to do harness on my old baja, would not want to even think about doing it on a bus! _________________ 1979 Transporter (sold)

Im not going to name any names, but someone (Caleb) likes to pull a little hard, so i made sure to tie off the one piece of string on each end that wasnt in use
Once i had strings going from both ends (heres the front)

Then you wiggle underneath, and basically have your helper, GENTLY start to pull. I think its easiest to start with the front, so have him take out the slack on the string as you feed the front part in through that center hole

The previous pictures are in reverse order, sorry.. trying to do this on the ipad.
Once tou get here you are going to have to manually feed it in therough the hole as your helper tugs
Then hell gradually be able to bring it up past the dash as you feed it in
I then tied the string off on the steering wheel cuz you dont know how much slack youll have for the back end _________________ JuadaLupe 1974 Thing [o\\\__///o]

One thing I forgot to mention, we left the new harness (i think we got it from aircooled.net) out in the sun for a half hour or so to make it kore pliable, amd Caleb kinda massaged it so it was relatively flat.
He then began to tug on the rear string as I fed it in the hole that goes through the frame
Youll have to kinda fiddle with it a bit to get it over the torsion tube

Once you get it out the hole in the frame, you then just pull it through the firewall.
Then you gotta unwrap all that frog tape, which i think actually took longer than pulling the harness.
We ended up unwrapping it, then stuffing the stuff for the starter back through the firewall. Once we got that roughly in place

Since itll be a bit before we start plugging things back in , i left frog tape on the terminal ends .
Im a little puzzled as to how to get all of the wires stuffed through the firewall grommet though _________________ JuadaLupe 1974 Thing [o\\\__///o]

Its actually one of the easiest things weve done! I thought it was going to take like days but it was only a few hours.
Caleb did get the old camper interior out on his days off (i think we literally had two days all summer we both had the same day off) , it was in pretty bad shape and on the early bays it really blocks your visibility, so he just kept the Z bed mechanicals and plans on making his own custome interior _________________ JuadaLupe 1974 Thing [o\\\__///o]

Woohoo! Glad to see yβall back at it, even if progress is slow.
Have you started hooking up wires yet? Does thebharness have all the correct terminals and colors?
