That would look cool on my '65, wish they still made them. |

I'm resurrecting an early baja. It came with the same early nose that uses the pre-67 headlights (in a box). But, it's missing the hood and front fenders.
Can I use the same hood/fenders from the later bug-eye baja kit? (similar to the kit below with the '67 & up headlights). Also, how does one attach the nose?

I recently picked up the same nose for my baja, it looks like the standard bug eye kit will work with that nose. |

This car was built in 1967 with a very early kit, before the front fenders were made as I recall. It has cut down steel stock front fenders, the originals to the car as I recall. The rears have been replaced several times and are now cut down fiberglass rears from a later model wide eye front application.

The Baja kits that use the 6V headlights were widely available in SoCal in the late 60s and early 70s. Most preferred to use the 12V headlights. For one thing most converted their 6V Bugs to 12V anyway. Lots of folks felt the 6V headlights looked odd in the Baja nose. I saw the 6V noses for sale at a fiberglass shop alongside the highway through Tijuana to Ensenada in the mid 70s. Miller Havens made the original fiberglass Baja kits. But there for a while, there were MANY people making them. _________________ Richard

Cant you just take the 6v headlamp out and put the 12v lamp in the old housings? |

You can exchange the bulbs. But as they have different nubs on the back side of the rim of the glass bulb to locate them, you need to do a little tin snip surgery to the bulb holder to fit the 12V bulb in the 6V housing.
I converted my '58 Bug to 12V before I cut the body to make it a Baja. So I ran it for a while as stock body with 12V bulbs all around.
But when I converted it to a Baja, it got 12V '67 headlight housings.

I guess this might get interesting, I plan on putting this nose on mine with the old housings but plan on using the H3 conversion housing with halogen bulbs. |

That will work if you do as I said above and re-notch the housing rims to fit the 12V Reflectors. Just 6 snips with tin snips per headlight, one for each side of each locator nub, and there are 3 nubs per light. Then fold the metal between the snips toward the back. _________________ Richard
