Strange. I just balanced my carbs at idle and that was it.
Although not the best video in the world, this fellow is fairly thorough in how to set up the carb including adjusting all the rods.

Glad you solved your issue. |

Update:
I rebuilt a pair of 32PDSIT carbs by merging the two pair I had hanging around for decades. Once had the copper jet tubes cut off.
The biggest challenge was that on one good carb, the dash-pot in the choke was missing the end cap, so I salvaged one from a chopped up tube carb and closed off the dash-pot.
I adjust the high idle setting, and that seems to be a continuing problem, stays too high during the warm up. Adjusting that means the carbs have to come out again.
After the choke heaters open up the butterfly valve, it idles just fine and sounds and runs well. Balanced the carbs at both warm idle and higher revs!
Nice to be able to drive it once again. |

My '67 started/ran best with the electric idle solenoids working, but with the electric chokes disconnected! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Yup, my 65 Notch has the chokes set wide open (never close), and it's only the first minute of the first fire up for the day that it idles rough, and wants to stall. But, once it's warmed up, runs excellent. I'm also using mechanical idle jets (on the outsides), so I don't have any wires to them. The mechanical jets work great, and I don't have to worry about them backing out. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

As for the cut off-solenoid backing out, I found a solution, but it is fraught with potential problems. I put a hose clamp on them with the heavier screw side on the add-tightness side. gravity tightens them. It also provides something for my fingers to grip to tighten. It does add weight to the cantilever though. |

Last Saturday I wired the chokes open and disconnected the choke hot lead and protected the exposed connector.
As expected, it started up with a little pedal pumping, but it ran great.
I'll do some more idle adjusting and balancing in this condition and then if I get ambitious I'll tackle the choked-idle issues. |

Yes, make sure you tune it with the engine fully warmed up. Make sure the ignition/distributor is also set correctly, as that can have an effect too.
What you might find though, is that you might not really need the chokes as much as you think. I had them set for a while, and it seemed like they coming on, once the carbs cooled off after being parked for a few hours. I never had that issue with the chokes disabled. It would literally start better than either FI car I had here. A quick twist of the key was all it needed. No touching of the gas pedal. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
