I removed the passenger side wing mirror from my car as I prefer the look of one and it was useless anyway, but now I’m looking for something to cover the thread with. Does anyone know what I should use or what it’s called?

Late model cars came with a black plastic plug on the top of the hinge.

perhaps you could go to the hardware store and get a rubber/plastic nipple for it or if you know the thread size you could get a cap nut for it.

pretty sure the thread is m12 x 1.0 if you can locate a dome nut that size (most seem to be x 1.75)

It was useless because you had the short arm version. Buy the correct longer arm one and they are far from useless.

Lol. Damn. Have to admit that didn’t even register. Oops. Wonder if there is a market for longer arm left side mirrors?

I still have mine installed on the drivers side hinge pin and they pull right off. There are not threaded but the exact O.D. of the thread on the pin. The originals are hard to find as the dealer threw them away when a car was sold and a mirror was installed.

I found these on the Aircooled Accessories website (from the U.K.):

https://www.aircooledaccessories.com/index.php?rou...uct_id=194

This site includes a number of superfluous-but-tasty tidbits...including mirrors and vintage fog lamps.

^^ those are chrome covers for pimping the hinge - not for covering the unused mirror thread...

Laughing for a moment there I thought you were suggesting he fits a whole truck mirror/arm assembly to his beetle!
