Finding my 1966 bug from old vin number

I am trying to locate my 1966 bug that i had in the late 70's to early 80's. I only have record of a 9 digit vin number. Does anyone know how i can locate it?

At best you could pay (a lot) to an unscrupulous PI that would have to search DMV records under shady pretenses in 50 states.
