Has anyone seen bad valve spring wear when rebuilding heads? Lost spring pressure? I'm sure my original VW springs have been reused more than once. What's the lifespan before shimming or replacement is needed?

Set them on a bench and see if they are equal height. I’d trust original springs vs aftermarket unless they are German.

I don't have an answer but I know that I dislike new aftermarket parts so much that I took all the valves, springs and keeper out of two AMC heads and trash canned them.
I then put my OEM parts from the cracked VW heads into the AMC heads.

I have one AMC head that swallowed an intake valve when the valve stem broke off!

Garbage...... lots and lots of garbage.

I have the bare amc heads with trw valves and titanium spring retainers I had stashed away. Springs looked alright so I reused them. But it was a VW rebuilt block so if VW reused the springs, who knows how many miles are on these original springs. Nobody has broken an original VW spring? Just AMC springs?
