Hey all, Working on a 59' for a customer. After a short test drive, the clutch tube broke free inside the tunnel.
Anyone have any dimensions on where to cut the holes in the tunnel on a 59' for welding-repiar? |

Try it first minimal invasive.
You can remove the e-brake handle and drill two holes right and left from the tube. Take some sheet metal and fold a little bracket that could be attached to a welding wire with one weld spot. With the help of that wire you can lead the bracket through the e-brake opening and pulling it against the tube and with its two laps against both drilled holes. A second person can weld the bracket from the other side (underside) through both holes, also filling them.
The welding wire to be broken off the bracket easily afterwards.
As I'm not a English native speaker I hoped to explain it clearly. You can see a few pictures of this process in my 1960 og paint thread on page 5:

I would never cut anything to repair the moving clutch tube and would do a minimal surgery instead:
- remove the e-brake, it will look similar to this:
- measure down to the ground and to the top of the clutch cable tube by pressing it down to the ground with the yard stick; of course you read both measurements at the same reference point at the e-brake support.
- fold a bracket from sheet metal after the measurements
- drill two holes like that:
- weld a welding rod to the brackets' top and insert it to the right place and push it on the ground by pushing the rod down
- from the underside, a second person now welds the bracket to the chassis; brake off the welding rod
- spray rust converter (f.e. epoxy based such as Brunox) onto the area and later a cavity grease or oil for conservation. Done! |

Hi Ohio Tom, I am dealing with the same issue, wondering if you ended up cutting the tunnel or doing what pastellgreen suggested? I have never seen someone fix the tube like that but seems like it could work.
I am not actually sure which tab is broken so doing this drilling method might be the least invasive solution for me. |

That method is only suitable for the case, the tube is vertically moving up and down, and not for the situation, the tube is horizontally moving for- / backward. _________________ 1961 pearl white beauty from Portugal
