Bob, I have the rings from the donor pad. I don't yet see the best way to integrate and make it look nice. Do you have a link for Rob's Roadster? I'm not familiar...
Thanks!

As for the gauge rings, you might want to find a dash pad that's basically junk, and get the rings out of it. That's what we did for Rob's Roadster when we went steel with the dash.
I hope this helps. |

Here's a link to his build, but it's missing a lot of the early build of it. Some pics of the steel dash are in my gallery though.

I included some of my gallery pics. The humps over the gauges are re-worked T-1 engine tin parts. The rings got trimmed on the outside a little to help them fit better.
I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Metal dash looks good, but the easiest is to have your padded dash upholstered with whatever you pick out.
Dieselgirl had her sweet squareback dash upholstered with imitation alligator skin! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

another alternative on the dash would be laying up 3-4 layers of fiberglass cloth on the metal dash, pop it off, use that as a base, and then build it up with foam, shaping it, and wrapping it with a 4 way stretch vinyl.
That could be a cool solution _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

While I think on that, some other progress was made...
We made an engine test stand:
That is version 1 and actually worked correctly on the first try. Woohoo!
We ran in Brian's bug engine first... it's crooked as this photo was taken before we drilled a new pin in the stand...
Next, I needed a gauge holder and tried to make one out of the radio bracket. I roached the first one but got the second one ok!
Second voltmeter will actually be oil temp.

Thanks TheGrafs!
While I wait for this to dry:
We're going to get version 2 of the test stand going. I made a box-thing:
Added gauges, switches, and lights:
Fuel pump and oil filter mounted to stand:
Ready to go!
