I was wondering how many changes in the Fresh Air Inlet Box Assembly there were during production. The one has a solid bump line and the other one has a broken line in the same area bump. My 65 has the 2 bumps inline.

From 3/55 to approx end of wolfsburg production they were ribbed lengthwise with a 5 position adjustment on the flap. From end of Wolfsburg production til end of Feb 58 they were ribbed with 4 position adjustment. After Feb 58 they lost the ribs per your photos. Not sure when the 2 lines started. |

12/30/59 with the split line.
Cool topic, will be interesting to narrow down when the changes occurred.
I'm guessing this change is not listed in literature. I believe there were also a couple different variations of the center panel pressing post 2/58.

CaLiBus has a triple rib down the center (front to back), VIN 328050.
First pic (my bus) has single sideways rib (forward of directional handle), smooth larger flat area, VIN 328082 (2/15/5.

It may come up sometime here- but there's one more box variation if you count the '66-up one with the rear sealed inlet flap.
My wild hunch though is that VW found they needed more rigidity in the flat bottom perhaps to mitigate air leaks at speed?
Interesting topic indeed- Lind should be here soon _________________
