Guys so the VW community here is trying to help out Tobi to get his rig running again, he came from Panama and unfortunately lived the "Mexican Nightmare"...... here in Mexico.... he is headed to New York in order to ship his vanagon to Germany again... We have the following pictures:

Do you know what engine code this engine could be? What years?

I can barely read 19 and I'm assuming that it means 1.9 also you can read below of the 19 TD I can imagine that's Turbo Diesel?....???

Tobi is saying that the engine came from a 2002 Golf TDI from Germany both in Germany and installed in Germany so the fear that we have is that it could be a European Model Only type of engine. But Like always I know that the Samba is here to help.

Thanks lots and God Bless!

It's hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like the boost signal hose on the LDA is connected to the #4 injector

Good morning Mark

It's most possibly a blown engine or a serious timing problem (I doubted) because that thing sounded like it was hitting metal with metal.

Everyone told him in my circle of friends (VW specialists that I had forgotten in the times of youth) to purchase a reliable engine to travel in North America but the guy wants his Diesel (that by the way it does not have MOT in Germany so go figure)

I entered rockauto.com and the full engine gasket set was not available in order to rebuild (and machine) that engine. Nor were rings, pistons, or bearings...

I offered him two options but he was struggling with money that's what he said (based on my short experience on the ABA and the 10k+ km I have put into that thing... unbelievable. I never thought that I was going to be able to pull that of ) 2500 for an Instaled working EFI ABA and 1500 for a carburated ABA to keep him going in North America.

His story did not sound straight and had to let him go to another (most possibly Weisel) mechanic... The starter was working when I tested the engine and then suddenly when the other guy checked the engine, the starter didn't work and he, of course, offered to take his van to his shop to apply the most reliable technique of a dirty mechanic in this country: Hostage Car Situation. At least he's going to be sleeping in his van! (Shop's name is VW Bunker he is on the old road that goes to Ensenada - Blvd Cuahthemoc- I ignore the guy's name but I did confront the asshole please help in reporting this shop in Ioverlander App if you suffered a scam by this guy we are tired of a bad reputation in this country)

When he first arrived with me he said it was a 1.6 engine so I checked and it said 1 9 that's why I started this thread (that's why everyone offered him help because we thought it was a European model), but you know how it goes when your young dumb and full of cum. The guy doesn't know about mechanics that's what he said...

You can check him out here:

Link

So go figure...

Hope that he deals with his depression problem because that disease is dangerous...

We wished him good luck with his journey and may God Bless him

Anyone is welcome to write to the guy...

For future reference. A stuck diesel injector will sound like a rod is coming out of the engine. Poor quality fuel/contamination might cause and injector to stick. They are easy enough to field clean if you stay organized. My experience is diesel's are very reliable. I'd feel much better traveling the road less traveled with my TDI vs a gas anything. Nice of you to attempt to help.

Got it Mark good suggestion if I do that conversion in the future!
