I have been working on a 1980 Vanagon Federal, fuel injected 2.0. Was not running when I purchase it. First purchase was a Bentley manual and I have spent quite a bit of time with it. Before getting it started, I replaced gas tank, fuel pump, gas lines, fuel filter, injectors and seals, cold start valve, Temp 2 sensor, plugs, points, condenser, ignition wires. The van had sat for seven years without starting and was in mostly one piece with a large box of removed parts, all bad. I have run Bently ohm check on air flow and CPU terminals . Checking the double relay per Bentley, two of the checks showed 12 volts and one check showed .2 volts. The manual says all three must have voltage and I'm assuming that's 12 volts, so I'm thinking the relay is bad. I've found one for$400+. At present it runs poorly and when warms up, will stall and not restart until cooled off. I'm at wits end. First time with VW fuel injection.

I had found that post, but, though I am decent at mechanics and wiring; I do not think I could accomplish making this. I have a friend who has been a lifelong VW mechanical shop owner and I'll see if he has a used one I can buy. My van is a very early '80 and the relay is silver. Thank you for the suggestion. All are welcome by this Vanagon newbie.

I'm in Marietta. I have a hacked one you can try, and if it works keep it. PM me. I'm home today.
