There likely were a few trucks built by Binz previous to 58, but no examples exist, so that is only speculation. The only proof of a Binz built earlier than 58 is the photos of the barndoor Binz. The company kept no records of production, so there is little to go on. It is thought that they began producing them in 58, but you could bring in your earlier truck and have them build it for you. That could explain the barndoor, I suppose. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

So just a question here. The Binz double cab was in production from 58-59 and stopped shortly after VW started producing them themselves. There are pictures of at least one barndoor Binz. So what is the reasoning for no prototype or production from 55 post barn door to 57? |

This info and new pics should be put in the "Binz" thread for an update. People want to know.

I recall that the guy who took those photos has been bugging the owner to sell it for a long time. From reading the Binz Doublecab thread in the split bus forum. If it really has been saved, that's great news. The one I'm really dying to see get off the ground is the one Gerson stated he was planning to build, a one-off Barndoor Binz reproduction. _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

I like how they kept the treasure chest area reachable from the outside - I wish VW had used that option as well - it would be a lot easier than going under the back seat all the time...Vanagons had it as well... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!
