It looks like I will be shipping my Beetle (and my Civic) from LI,NY to the Denver, CO area.

Based on what I've read here from p.27 to the above post, I will contact 4Corners first, unless someone has a better idea.

Have you considered,
https://www.fastenal.com/fast/blue-lane-freight
I have read here that they can ship cheaper than UPS.

Problem is, they don't ship coast to coast.
It appears that when the truck gets to the Mississippi River, Fastenal will not transfer the load to the east coast trucker.

My experience (first time) with shipping. I wanted enclosed trailering. After doing some research and deciding to use 4 Corners transport, I called and made arrangements. I was glad that I had read a review that Jeff was "to the point" as he was strictly business and short on the phone. Fine - I'm not trying to small talk. I was making arrangements for a car to be picked up and brought to me. I stressed on the phone that the seller was an individual that worked and needed advance notice at least a day ahead. Jeff assured me that both the seller and I would be notified. After about a week, I got a call from Jeff the morning that the pickup was supposed to happen and I told him "I stressed to you that the seller needed advance notice of a day." He quickly, abruptly and with an increased tone said "That's now how this works." He went on to blah, blah, blah. I ended with "I hope the seller is available this morning. He went on to talk about the problem with rescheduling, losing money, etc.

Fortunately, it worked out.

What I think I have learned from this (my one and only experience) is that these transport companies put a bid out and wait on someone to accept it. So it's not the company you are dealing with that does the transport. And, it helps not to be employed, have someone available 24/7, or be available 24/7 for a transport.

I would not use 4 Corners again. Not sure what I'll do next time, if there is a next time. Sure, I could go get it myself but I didn't want to risk my investment since I don't have the trailer, but more importantly the experience of transporting a car long distance.

Made the move safely. Thanks for the suggestions. Only bad part was the ice removal once we got here!

My first time of using Jeff and 4 Corners, and everything went pretty smoothly. They found a good company to enclosed transport my Bus from AZ to VA and they worked with some time restrictions I had. They had a transport lined up, but pulled it because he had heard not good things about the company - but the company they ended up using did a great job.

I don't do a lot of transport, but I will certainly use them next time!

No one ever reads the fine print in a contract …

All transport broker agreements are essentially
the same - here is an excerpt from this link:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

When you contract with any auto transport broker
you waive your rights to damage claims - they have
no legal liability for who they choose to transport
your vehicle.

You also agree to “ Customary & Acceptable Damage “
that normally occurs during loading - unloading
transfer - storage of your vehicle during the process.

The “ Customer Satisfaction Ratings “ are based - in part
on BBB complaints - go read them - few folks do.

Folks will experience damage to their vehicle
and/or charges to their transport agreement
in excess of what the quote or estimate was …

Folks will file a complaint - the response from
the auto transport company will be that they
are not responsible because of the legal agreement
and the complaint will be satisfactorily closed.

The best way to transport your vehicle ?

Fly out or drive out and get it yourself.

If you can’t do that - hire someone you
deal with directly that drives the truck
pulling the trailer your vehicle is on or in.

It usually will not be at the rate or timeframe
that a sales person from an auto transport broker
quotes - those are “ broker bait “ prices
intended to secure a credit card commission
for the auto transport broker and do not
reflect the actual cost of transport.

I might be needing the services of a transport company soon, and I ran across this article from Forbes.

Anyone care to weigh in on their choices with your own experience with these companies? Thanks in advance.

American Auto Shipping 4.8/5

I have not used them BUT.... I see them all the time running down to FL with both snowbirds and stuff going down for Amalia Island stuff. I think they have been around longer than my transport division.

Thanks for letting me know that Clay. Most of their reviews seem positive. Cant believe there are 19 pages of paperwork to fill out for the bus to come across the border!! yikes

Can you put the Beetle inside the truck?

It is a violation of any commercial rental
agreement to transport a vehicle inside
of a moving truck - it also violates any
insurance they offer as well as your
automobile insurance policy.

Back your trailer against another vehicle
or against a light pole or a wall or building.

If those aren’t available - park at an angle
against a curb or grass area so the vehicle
can’t be off loaded.

Do not use CFR classic! I brought my SC in from Netherlands, price was ok however they couldn’t seem to get it on a boat to Hawaii once it arrived in San Diego, it sat for over 2 months! After prodding and questioning they said “oh the ship company says the bill of sale is too old” ! WTF? Why didn’t you contact me as soon as that problem arose? ( why that is a policy is beyond me) I don’t think I’ll ever ship international again because it was such a bad experience.

As far as theft is concerned:

Try to stay at motels that are a couple of miles from the interstate (harder to grab, run and disappear) or in smaller towns.

Park the rig in a well lit area either right outside your room or that can be easily seen by front desk.

Consider using something like these personal alarms on any entry points:
https://www.amazon.com/Taiker-Personal-Emergency-S...&psc=1

Wheel chock locks: https://www.amazon.com/Trimax-TCL75-Deluxe-Universal-Lock-Yellow/dp/B001H494DC

Basically the more deterrents the better … hopefully enough to encourage thieves to look for a target with fewer or no hassles.

Or you could just get a trunk monkey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFqr3_frh3Q

The exterior deployment model would be great for vandals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhePCo2m3Dk
