Yeah, I know this is a question about a 1957 color. But can anyone post a few photos of any late Oval Kabrioletts painted with L333 Pearl Blue metallic. It's a little different than the Iris Blue metallic. I see it at the bottom of the photo of the Glassomax paint chip sheet shown above. Also would be nice to see the seat upholstery color and convert top color if possible... Thanks!

Bill

I believe the color is Shetland gray,I have mostly original paint 56 vert and a friend of mine has a 57 vert with the same color.

Yes, I think it is Shetland Grey also.
It is difficult to photograph metallic colored paint chips.....

Any decent motor factor could mix it from the code. Even bigger branches of Halfords do it now.

IMO red interior with white piping on a black car is the best combo on any VW.

With the tan hood a tan'ish interior with lighter piping would look good, or change the hood to black and go for the red and white interior.

Yes there is a difference.
It is difficult to show in photos. Here are 2 color chips. The bottom is Strato Sliver and the top one is Iris blue.

Still not sure, I would love to get a part (like the ash tray door) to have a sample made in PPG. Is your glove box door missing, that makes a better sample?

Go BLACK but you Better make sure your shit is straight if you want to go black. Factory workers back then chose certain cars to be painted this color

A lot of time went into the bodywork on this vert and its no joke!

I owned a 1962 Austin Healy 3000 a few years ago and I painted it black so I know black is a difficult color to prep for, and getting it straight will be a helluva chore. What worries me more is that once it's done, everything else, trim, rubber, chrome, etc; will look like crap and will need replacing. Confused

Please proove me wrong and find some more dolomite pics!
I've searched the whole entire internet ...yes, all of it! and still can't find any. Has anyone even seen annother one?

Help us please, more pics if you can. Is this a metalic paint? How would you describe your color and interior? Thanks

I like black cars but owned one and wont again. I would consider back and cream 2 tone but it's not an OG color. Nothin to do with bodywork, the maint on black sucks

Dolomite is a very fine metalic, and looks almost silver with a very light purple-ish hue.
The interior is a greyish beige with brown piping. It actually almost has a hint of green to it.
I also have a top boot that is brown, with beige trim.
the car should have a brown top, but it is totally disintegrated. (still have the back window & domelight though!)
The outside of the car has been painted a couple of times and I have never seen a picture of annother vert in still wearing this color.

Here is some info from karmannghia.org:
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Dolomite consists of:

86.8 parts LM90 (Aluminum)
7.4 parts LM40 (Black)
4.2 parts LM70 (Red Brown)
1.6 parts LM80 (White)

The color chip shown is not really an accurate representation of What the color looks like.
