Did this car go to Hessisch a few years ago? I helped bump start one looking exactly like this, and again, French.

Looks like the manifold, and the shape of the case by the oil pump looks more like a 36 replacement..

Of course, buyer always beware. The seller describes the engine very thoroughly vis-a-vis its condition. But nowhere do I see a claim that it is 100% correct or original. Few operable engines of this vintage are. However, if the crankcase serial number is right and its current capacity is 1131cc, then its a 25 hp motor.

This isn't for split Beetle or even 50s Bus. It is for 1970s Type 181s. The Type 181 hand crank has an extra pin that fits the through hole of this pulley bolt. Early Beetle and Bus don't have the pin. _________________

Indeed. Every Std Beetle latch I've seen was black paint directly on the metal, so no primer. Then the window frames and divider bars were painted body colour. _________________

The seller is also a member on the samba. Saw these body parts a while ago in the classifieds. Front section is from ‘49. I’ve seen some crazy beetle and bus wrecks being saved and put back on the road. Somebody with a jig and lots of welding skills could turn that back into a useable body. _________________ Kdf, splits & ovals |

The (claimed) 1948 body parts are the cut in half front and rear sections on the first picture that is post above by Rene R. It will be very hard to rebuild these into a complete and correct car, unless you have easy acces to all the necessary parts and talents.

it's hard to put a date on iron oxide . is he saying that the 48 is the back half with the remains of the id plate area. then he's throwing in the small tank, cut out dash and front clip? _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Here are pictures from the listing, since the ad will disappear when or if it sells. (The third picture is described as an extra body that the seller would offer at extra cost.)

I came across this ad on Facebook Marketplace of the remains of a claimed 1948 body which is currently for sale here in Holland, including papers, certificate and correct id-plate / bodynumber. In 1947 Holland was the first country for the export of Volkswagens, so this could be an early Export car.
