Ahh, I see. Not quite so impressive then. I thought the VW design in the center was odd. _________________ 71 Squareback

I bought a new set of beauty rings and Wolfsberg Crest hubcaps from Chris in Salem. The beauty rings never fit tight enough and we finally lost one! They have a notch for the valve stem. They were on ET34 wheels, which might have been wrong? _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

thanks guys.. I was just wondering if anyone had some comparison shots of the later type 3 rings. (4 lug).
I am having difficultly determining if any of the classifieds are the correct ones. I do have T3 rims so I want the right rings.
thanks!
so if I am looking at these two pictures.. and making an educated guess...
Picture 1: this looks to be a correct T3/Ghia trim ring ... you can see that it fits snug and the valve stem seems to come close to the center most point of the slot
Now in this color picture.. I am guessing these are likely bug or aftermarket trim rings... they dont appear to be too tight, and you can see the valve stem is nearly resting on the outermost portion of the hole.

The ring in the top picture appears to have the grommet around the valve stem hole. I believe these go with the "nipple" hubcaps (as shown), used '66-early '67. _________________ Thanks,

Go ahead Giz.
My 69 came with T-1 rings. I tried to find a picture of it with them, but I must have removed them right away. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

Can we hijack this thread and show pictures of all known Type-3 Trim Rings... I'm just curious to see how many different types are out there.

Take a look at the valve stem hole, the top one is defiantly a type 3 trim ring. Ghias had a type one offset, except possibly a year or two. I did a writeup on theSamba, a search will bring it up if needed; do not want to go off on that rabbit trail.
One note, see the damage on the type 3 trim ring? That is from using a pry tool to take off the hubcap, versus the proper puller. _________________ Please consider I am Autistic, so I process information differently and still working on social skills. Thanks.

Due to the offset difference, when T3 rings are placed on T1 beetle rims the centre of the trims doesn't seat on the metal but is 12mm above the centre seat of the rim ( so you can't fit the hubcaps).
Beetle rings conversely sit 12mm out from the outer rim edge when placed on type 3 rims ( but the hubcaps will fit).
An easy way to check: Looking at Type 3 rings from the side the centre is visible 2-3 mm further out than the outside edge, whereas T1 sit below. |

I like those. I'm also interested in finding out if these will indeed work. |

I have some aftermarket. I need to check and see if they are type3. If they are I'll let them go. |

The offset is the main difference.
T-1's are a flatter wheel. The T-1 trim ring will not lay against the wheel right. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey
