I saw an original 56 once, think its wider. But you cant see that under the cover. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

FWIW, many years ago, I bought a sunroof top from J C Whitney. (mistake!) Ordered it via snail mail (<-how long ago!) Received a phone call: 'Is yours a '4 round corners or 4 square corners'?" "4 round corners!".
They sent me a cover with 2 round & 2 square corners, go figure. I had to pay return shipping to get my money back, , , ,
(same dimensions, just those corners)
-c-
(should ad: '56 sunroof)
(car has an electric brake inside the wiper case to lock the wipers at whatever point you turn them off!!) |

I to need this for my Janaury 56, or a drawing so I can make one myself
Think its the same as a 55, but with cdiaginal corners??

Hi Guys, I've read and read and I still don't understand the 55 Bug Ragtop and Rubbed Door issue. I'm hoping someone can help me with my questions. I have a 55 ragtop bug that didn't come with the mechanism, here's my vin#9328**. What type of corners in the front and back should I have? Also, 2 or 3 fold?
Also, should I have ribbed doors or not? Based on my vin # , was it made in Aug of 55? Does that mean that its considered a 56? Thank you in advance. Carlos |

So.............
I am putting together my ragtop. Its a two fold earlier 56 roofclip.
I purchased my ragtop and also a front header bow as my clip didn't have one. Seems as if the fromt bow is wider then the cloth top.....
Did the later sunroofs have a wider front bow then the 56?
Anyone know? |

Hello Everyone, sorry to come in so late in the game, but up until now, I hadn't had a reason to look deeper into the specifics of the 56 ragtop.
I own a Oct/Nov 55, which makes it a 56- two fold. I have the round corners in front, square in back. I'm in the process of restoring the entire mechanism and have come to one hurdle.
It appears that there was some kind of white strap belt (possibly nylon) that was attached to several of the sliding bows. I believe it's function is to help pull the bows together in unison when you close the sunroof cover.
Has anyone dealt with these and if so, where can I purchase something similar that would work?
One last question, I may have missed in the earlier posts, what type of cover material is correct for Oct/Nov sunroof? Canvas or Vinyl?
Thanks

Here is the info on the strap.

do you have a better picture of the top of the rear corner?
edit
nevermind, you can see in the last picture that it has stitching all the way to the back of the top. so the rear header clamps the last 3 inchs of the material and the rest simply folds over it towards the front.
is it supposed to be glued, or just leave it loose ontop of the header? |

Or to just before the rear header like this?
and heres the top views
(camera didnt like the material, looks weird)
