Interesting horn button. Looks like a bus gas cap.

I do remember seeing that. Pretty cool actually, I can tell the owner had fun with it and some historical references on KDF cars. Not sure why it has a roll cage, unless tha tis what was in it when he started the project.

Like the old radio equipment...

Just out of curiosity, would the Needhams in question be Art and Tracy?

Thanks,
Don

How about that. I remember when the late (great) Jerry Kelly used to drive "The Shrimp" to VW shows back in the '80s--pretty cool to see that it's still around.

The Needhams have also been on the VW scene for a long, long time--they're good people.

I believe that car is owned by the Needman'S (SP?) the other twins.. Yes it is a fake and they do not hide it. Got a brief story of it a few years back and it was one of those "why not" deals. They have had it out for a few years now.

The cars' worth checking out in detail however were Dave Havillands' still fresh looking gorgeous 53, Wiggy's amazing lowlight ghia, and Humberto Lapa's fresh out of the resto shop 64 sunroof which was everything he is known for.

...and that all original 57 from nj.

very true also, you seldom if ever see original paint survivor cars anywhere near that condition.

Yeah, that's the way to do it! I know this 'cos I did it to my car in the '80ies. There are two ways to tell a fake split from a real one. The window shape is too rounded - it just doesn't look right and the curve of the window follows close to the upwards curve of the louvres. On a real split those curves are different.

I saw the car. They had it listed on the show card as a 41', but it was parked in the custom class from what I remember, nowhere near the other early cars. I noticed it had an oval dash so that to me said its obviously something someone put together from parts.

It was listed as a '41 and on the card next to the year it said " ( FAKE )" so he was clearly letting everyone know it was a fake right from the start. It was o.k. just seemed a little slapped together thats all.

I saw Humberto's '64 yesterday (Thanks again Humberto!-)) and I know it's the wrong forum completely, but hearing the motor run and seeing the detail on that car was awesome. It's a very, very, very nice car indeed. Very Happy
