After driving 1-1/2 hours each way to see my brother the other day, I knew I had to block off the hood vent for the winter. Even though the fresh air vents were closed, there's still cold air coming in.
Made the plate out of left over 1/4" plastic from Menards.
I might paint it to match the car, or maybe not.

Very nice! What brand & model of radio is that? |
to be honest its a cheapie single din android/apple bought on amazon. costs like 70 bucks. but youll have to add an amp as the power output to the speakers is almost nothing. so far it works really well |

We get ethanol free regular in Iowa so that's what I run. It's a bit odd that Iowa grows most of the corn for ethanol and the stations carry ethanol free.

I look for a light tan on the plug porcelain. I'm getting that with the 55/127.5 combo on my stock 1600. Good luck getting her dialed in. |
This motor rarely gives the light tan. The gas around here all has ethanol which I've read makes the nice tan outcome less common even with a good tune. I could be wrong! |

it looks so much better than a padded dash and gives it a more classic car look.
i like the chrome trim on your dash. |

Finished touchup painting. Not perfect but better than it was...
Polishing and waxing today.
Cleaned interior and windows, inside and out.
Detailed tires and wheels.
Stopped for lunch.
Reinstalled molding, door handles, decklid latches, emblem and script.
Ran out of daylight.
Reinstalled wipers, bumpers and running boards.
Also installed a pair of fog lights while I was at it.
Results:
Touchup paint 7/10
Polish & wax 9/10
Reassembly and trim etc 10/10
Curb appeal 9.5/10 (Was 6.5/10)
Car cover 9/10*
I am satisfied.
Regrouping now.
On to the next fiasco!
*IPC #10050 Inexpensive, good fit/value.
"All weather breathable material" is easy to deploy but somewhat difficult to stow due to stiffness.
Has already provided excellent protection during several rainstorms.

My 70 had a padded dash too, after some parts swapping between different years and VW models, this is what it looks like now.

| Tonight I swapped out the 009 dizzy for the correct one, a 205AN DVDA, and with my new battery-powered timing light, I was able to set the timing, check dwell (50°), and set idle speed. I also fixed a booboo on my radio install. I had the battery and key on wires backwards. Tomorrow night, I need to aim the headlights. |

Installed Awesome Powdercoat metal cylinder deflectors.
I need to clean up picture taking skills, see my notes for adjusting valves in the background.
A little tricky to install with pushrod tubes in the way, but made it happen with care. _________________ B r i a n

Might not seem to be a big deal to most but, first wash by me EVER!
When I bought it 18 years ago, I drove it about a mile, had a buddy flat tow it home and immediately started to take it apart. Since July, I've put about 1500 miles on it.
