| The size of the vibration isolators is as follows: rubber cylinder diameter @1/2 inch or 12.7mm, stud on each end 6mm or 1/4 inch diameter (0.236"), stud length @1/2 inch in length or 12 to 15mm, height of the rubber is 10 mm or 13/32 inch. The gap between the attachment points is 10 mm exactly and 13/32 inch is just slightly longer than 10mm. You are going to need 2 small flat washers, 2 each split or star lock washer and 2 each nut to match threads. You don't need a star or split lock washer if you use a nylock nut. Your best bet is buy them from McMaster-Carr because they have a large selection and they are easy to find. Link: https://www.mcmaster.com/vibration-dampers |

| In Europe, you could buy the two Speed fan in Super Beetles and later in Standard Beetles as extra, as part of the "L"-(luxury) package or as "M"-Option. |

| Australian and some European 1971-1972 Superbugs did not have the fresh air fan. They had non power assisted ventilation system and full width dash cover (behind) without the ventilation system sticking out. |

Here is a search parameter to use in the McMaster-Carr catalogue.
"General Purpose Vibration-Damping Sandwich Mounts with Studs". I will get the thickness dimension tomorrow and post it. |

Hmm, doesn't seem as anyone is looking for these of late. Anyway, I did find something that will work.

Hello,
I'm a little late posting in this thread but I also have 1972 SB that I'm trying to find the Anti-vibration connectors for the fresh air box. I tried to look at page 1361 in the McMaster-Carr online catalog but I'm sure the page numbers have changed and I cannot locate these connectors for the air box... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...thank you |

I used this guys video and rebuilt my frozen fan into a working 2-speed fan. Patience, and the correct tools, and it works.

The wires should come off the front of the switch, so on the firewall inside the trunk. There are two speeds: slow and slower. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. There are two black wires with stripes and a brown wire. The two black wires will plug into two black wires that should be hanging lose somewhere under the hood. The brown wire is ground and plugs into the common ground spades near the speedo. _________________ 72 Super Beetle

| My fresh air box and defroster ducts were completely missing when I bought my 72 Super Beetle. I have purchased a used set and cleaned up and refurbished the fresh air box. My confusion comes in with the wiring connections. There are 3 wires that exit the rear of the fresh air box. Can anybody tell me how to hook them back up? |

Has anyone swapped out the og motor in the air box for a different motor? If a burned-up motor is as common as it sounds, we really need a good fix for it in the community here...
My motor is burned up on both speeds - used, from a '72 super in the junkyard - and I can't really imagine it would be cost effective to re-wind the motor. I'm curious if anyone has ever tried _________________ Robert in Memphis

since they are not made anymore, the classifieds are your best bet. i took my fresh air box off my 73 standard last night to take apart and clean 40 years of dirt out of it. |

I believe the rubber-box type mounts (#12) are from the later models w/squirrel cage fan (of which I've rebuilt one and parted-out another)...the earlier ones (#11) use a rubber-studded mount - similar to a Rabbit radiator mount. Here are the 'replacement' early style mounts (1/4"-20) I got from McMastercarr:
The flap (#7) would be a source a good used one or make one. |

| You can buy the special 71+72 two speed switch at Wolfberg West. Their is a motor take apart and relube video on thesamba that works if your motor is squealing. I did that and it is simple. You can also buy the special rubber insulators for the fan (inside the box) at McMaster Carr page 1363. Lube the control cables well. If the dash and inside hood control vents are missing they are available new for inside the car, and used for the ones in the hood area. The insulator connector for the duct inside the hood is available from Mid America. I have this working perfectly in a 72 super beetle and adjust the cold air intake knobs as desired to ensure warm air yet enough fresh air and defrost for the windshield. Hook it up as it was intended and you will be very happy with the results. |

Those videos referred to by mrbigmax are great.
The 1302 fresh air box is completely different from the unit (without the fan) on standard Beetles.
It looks like this:
Good luck, Mondshine |

| I've rebuilt a couple of the late style fresh air fans from both my `77's Std. Beetles, and one earlier Super unit...They don't have many parts in common. One late unit had a bad resistor for the slow-speed circuit and I had to modify one from the local RadioShack to fit...it was slightly greater value than stock, so it now runs a little slower, but it's better than nothing. |
